2021 AUSTRALIAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

2016 Olympian Georgia Bohl was a noticeable scratch on day 1 of the 2021 Australian Swimming Championships as she was absent from the 100 breaststroke. Bohl confirmed to us on Wednesday afternoon that she decided to sit out of the meet due to a lingering knee injury that she’s been dealing with.

Bohl said that after having warmed up prior to the session, she didn’t feel like she was at 100% and decided not to risk swimming so as to prevent worsening the injury. Bohl is able to safely sit out of the meet as it will not serve as the nation’s Olympic selection meet. Australia’s Olympic Trials are scheduled to occur from June 12 – 17, 2021.

Bohl was entered to swim the 100 breast at nationals as sixth seed with a 1:07.94 which is nearly 2 seconds off her current PB of 1:06.12 which swam 5 years ago to win gold at Australian Championships. That year, Bohl went on to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics and placed 24th in the prelims of the event with  1:07.96. Following her Olympic debut, Bohl represented Australia at the 2018 Commonwealth Games where she picked up a bronze medal in the 100 breast with a 1:07.22.

In her absence, Chelsea Hodges posted the top time in the prelims with a 1:06.90 while Abbey Harkin (1:07.45) and Jenna Strauch (1:07.64) followed.

Bohl was also entered to swim and will scratch the 50 breaststroke where she was 3rd seed (31.05) and the 200 breaststroke in which she was 6th (2:27.74).

As it stands, Bohl is currently the 7th ranked 100 breaststroker from Australia during the qualification period for Australian Trials which began on January 1, 2019, and the 8th ranked 200 breaststroker.
