Occidental Men Win Over Redlands For First Time In Decades

The Occidental men’s swimming and diving team picked up a pair of impressive dual meet victories, including a win over Redlands for the first time in decades.

The Tigers beat Chapman 190-96 and Redlands 161-133.

“Today was a banner day for our program, and these wins today were a total team effort,” Oxy head coach Steve Webb said. “The team had great energy today, and went out and competed at a very high level which is what we ask from them each day.”

Event Winners:

Zeke Sebastian: 200 Freestyle, 1:44.06, 500 Freestyle, 4:49.92

Edward Dabsys: 100 Freestyle, 47.86, 50 Freestyle, 21.83

Austin Lashley: 100 Butterfly, 50.83

Matt Weiser: 200 Breaststroke, 2:13.63

Parag Kalay: 200 Backstroke, 1:58.05

400 Freestyle Relay (Edward DabsysZeke SebastianSam SachsAustin Lashley), 3:13.15

200 Medley Relay (Ben SappeyMatt WeiserAustin LashleyEdward Dabsys), 1:38.43

“The men’s team dominated both meets today, and what is even more impressive is that they overcame a 32 point deficit from diving to Redlands and still won the meet by 28 points,” Webb said. “We haven’t beaten Redlands in decades as they have been a perennial powerhouse for years. We were led by seniors Austin Lashley, and Math Weiser who each got individual wins. Across the board the men were solid, and some other individual event winners were: Parag KalayEdward Dabsys, and Zeke Sebastian.”

“This is a great start to the second half of our season and we look to carry the momentum forward the rest of season,” Webb said.
