Oakland’s El Sayed, Grant gain Horizon League weekly honors

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Senior Amr el Sayed and junior Tricia Grant were named Horizon League men’s swimmer of the week and women’s diver of the week, repsectively, after Oakland’s strong performances at the EMU Invite Dec. 6-7. The weekly accolade is the first this season for el Sayed and fifth for Grant.

El Sayed was a three-time winner in the middle and long distance freestyle races, as he was victorious in the men’s 200, 500 and 1650 free races for Oakland, with all three times establishing new Horizon League bests for the season at the halfway point. el Sayed also was a part of two relay victories, the 200 free relay and 800 free relay; Oakland’s 800 free relay team – which included Tuomas KiviluomaJacob Pearson and Jorden Merrilees – set a meet and pool record with their time of 6:37.62.

Grant improved her win total to 11 with her victory in the 1-meter dive with her score of 267.35. Grant also tallied a second-place finish in the 3-meter event.

Oakland closes out the calendar year at the CSCAA Ed Kennedy Memorial Swim Meet Dec. 31 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
