Nyls Korstanje Clocks New Dutch 50 Fly National Record

2018 LEN EUROPEAN AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

NC State commit Nyls Korstanje has broken his first individual LCM Dutch senior national record with an impressive showing in the men’s 50m fly at the 2018 European Championships.

Clocking a time of 23.40 in prelims, the 19-year-old clinched the 3rd seed in the men’s 50m fly event and overtook the old national record of 23.52 held by teammate Matthys Goosen since last year. In tonight’s semi-final, Korstanje dropped the mark even further, clocking 23.48 to claim the 7th seed for tomorrow’s final.

Entering this meet, Korstanje’s previous personal best sat at the 23.54 he notched for the win at this year’s Swim Cup Eindhoven. Before that, the future Wolfpack member clocked a new national age group record for 18-year-olds in 23.96. He also holds the national age record for 18-year-olds in the 50m freestyle with a 22.49, which he has already improved to 22.38 this year as a 19-year-old.

We’ll see if Korstanje is able to cut any more time away from his new NR in tomorrow’s final.
