Notre Dame’s Casareto And Reaney Earn Scholar All-America Honors

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Highlighted by University of Notre Dame graduates Allison Casareto and Emma Reaney, six Irish women’s swimming and diving standouts earned academic recognition from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America recently.

Casareto and Reaney both received Scholar All-America honors, while Annie Crea, Emma Gaboury, Catherine Galletti and Sherri McIntee earned honorable mention Scholar All-America accolades.

In addition, the Irish program was named a Scholar All-America team after recording a 3.33 GPA during the 2014-15 school year.

Casareto earned her first honorable mention All-America scroll in March on the 1-meter board at the NCAA Championships to close out a productive career at Notre Dame. The La Habra Heights, California native was a two-year captain and scored points throughout her career at conference championship meets. The Scholar All-America designation is the first of her career.

A standout both in and out of the pool throughout her record-setting Irish career, Reaney has earned Scholar All-America honors the last three seasons. Reaney tallied All-America honors in the 100 and 200 breast and the 200 IM at March’s NCAA Championships to finish off her sterling career.

As a junior, Reaney set an American record (2:04.06) in winning the 200-yard breaststroke at the 2014 NCAA Championships. For her career, she earned All-America honors eight times and honorable mention All-America accolades five times. A co-captain in 2013-14, Reaney is a two-time Capital One Academic At-Large All-American and the 2013-14 ACC Women’s Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Crea, a rising sophomore from The Woodlands, Texas, qualified for the NCAA Zone C meet in her first year under the Golden Dome.

Gaboury, a rising senior from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and a two-time honorable mention Scholar All-American, earned Dean’s List honors during both semesters in 2014-15. She qualified for the finals on the 3-meter board at the NCAA Zone C meet and finished in the top 17 on both the 1- and 3-meter disciplines at the ACC Championships.

Galletti, a rising senior from Oviedo, Florida and a three-time honorable mention Scholar All-American, scored points for the Irish throughout the ACC Championships in the 100 fly, 100 back, 50 free, 200 and 400 medley relays and the 200 and 400 free relays after returning from double hip surgery that cut short her 2013-14 season. In addition to her success at ACC’s, Galletti also lowered the Rolfs Aquatic Center pool record in the 100 fly (53.35), 200 medley relay (1:40.33) and the 400 medley relay (3:39.21) at the Shamrock Invitational.

McIntee, a rising sophomore from Carlsbad, California, earned Dean’s List accolades during both semesters as a freshman. She was one of just two Irish rookies to earn a spot at the ACC Championships, qualifying for the “C” finals in both the 100 and 200 breast.

To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a “B” time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.

To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a grade point average of 3.00 or higher over the Spring semester.
