North Dakota Gets Verbal from Illinois Breaststroker Caily Friel

Breaststroker Caily Friel has committed to compete next fall for the University of North Dakota. Friel, a member of the Academy Bullets Swim Club in Illinois. She was a multiple event finalist in this past summer’s NCSA Summer Championships held at IUPUI. She finished 18th (33.98) in the 50 breast and 28th (1:15.19) in the 100 breast.

Swimming for Andrew High School (Tinley Park, IL) last November, Friel finished 19th (1:05.44) in the 100 breast at the Illinois High School State Meet. She decided to forego her senior high school season to train with the Bullets year round.

Friel’s best times include:

Friel will be a strong addition to North Dakota’s breaststroke group, which posted solid results at the 2015 WAC Conference Championships. UND placed four finalists (1 A/ 1 B/ 2 C) in the 100 breast and three (1 B / 2 C) in the 200 breast. Friel’s times would have made the B final in each event.
