(NLI PHOTOS) Pair of Portland Porpoises Sign Letters of Intent

A pair of swimmers from the Portland Porpoises (Maine, not Oregon) signed their National Letters of Intent this week to swim in Division I.

Emma Pontius will stay close to home and swim for the University of Maine, while Eric Delmonte heads south to Virginia Tech.

Pontius is good in a wide range of events that should benefit the Black Bears of Maine. She goes 54.8 in her 100 yard free, 59.4 in her 100 yard back, and 58.3 in her 100 yard fly; small improvements in her breaststroke could make her a fantastic IM’er.

Delmonte, a breaststroker, has yards bests of 58.6 and 2:03.2 in the 100 and 200 yard breaststrokes. That 200 time indicates that he probably has a good drop left in him in his 100 before he heads off to college next fall.

Both swimmers are coached by Matt Baxter.
