Famed Baylor School & Swim Club has produced another top flight class of senior athletes with five swimmers signing their National Letters of Intent last week. This marks the third consecutive year in which at least five Baylor swimmers have received college scholarships.

Sam McHugh will head to Tennessee, Dustin Tynes off to Ohio State, Bree Roman will stay in the south at Auburn, Luke Kaliszak to Alabama, and Chandler Hinson will make way to Georgetown.

McHugh recently was named Southeastern Swimming’s Swimmer of the Year. He holds Baylor pool records in the 400-yard individual medley (3:56.6), the 200 freestyle (1:40.30) and the 100 butterfly (49.5). He will make an immediate impact at Tennessee.

McHugh is strong all around, with best times of 46.26r/1:38.44/4:25.59/9:23.38/15:50.28 in the 100 freestyle on up. Plus he brings versatility with Open cuts in the 100/200 backstroke, 200 butterfly and 200 IM; and summer Junior times in the 100 butterfly and 400 IM.

Tynes, who is a native of the Bahamas, excels in the breaststroke events. While his times long course are a bit better than his short course times, he’s been 57.69 and 2:09.89 in the 100/200yd. events. With more short course training and development with Assistant Coach (and former NCAA breaststroke Champion) Dave Rollins, his future is bright in the breaststroke events.

Roman, who is from Jamaica, will join an Auburn women’s program next fall. She is a breaststroke specialist, and can excel for Auburn in those events within a few years. Her 100 breaststroke is 1:03.44, and her 50 freestyle is equally as good with a time of 23.83. There’s been plenty of top tier sprint freestyle/breaststroke combination swimmers, and Roman can be plugged into that role.

Kaliszak has been faster than Alabama’s backstrokers this year and will be an instant upgrade to that program. His best times include 22.69/48.90/1:51.20 in the 50, 100, and 200 backstroke events.

Hinson, who excels in freestyle and backstroke events, will instantly be a star swimmer at Georgetown. His bests include 21.61r/46.01/1:41.03 in the short to mid freestyle races, plus 51.96/1:51.26 in the backstroke events.

All of the swimmers are coach by Dan Flack, the Head Coach of Baylor Swim Club and Baylor School.
