Kane Radford has been a force on the open water scene for a while now. He’s the reigning New Zealand 10K national champion and has numerous high profile wins under his belt. Although he qualified for the 2012 London Olympics the Kiwi’s didn’t elect to send him to the show on the Serpentine. But that hasn’t stopped him – he’s been training hard and recently relocated to Perth (yes a Kiwi in OZ) to train with his friend and competitor Rhys Mainstone. It seems like a good move for Radford, he’s more focused and determined than ever. The Kiwi’s have been over in Spain for over 5 weeks and are well accustomed to life in Barcelona. They’ve even competed on the world championship course at the Spanish national championships. There’s going to be some excellent racing in the open water events with the 5K kicking off the 2013 FINA world championship on July 20th. In this interview Kane describes the course and the Kiwi’s impressions of Barcelona. According to Kane, it going be interesting with both right and left side turns – this will keep the competitors “on their toes”.
