New Zealand National Champion Andie Quirke Verbally Commits to Iowa State

Andie Quirke from Auckland, New Zealand has verbally committed to Iowa State University for 2020-21. She will be in the Cyclones’ class of 2024 with fellow commit Ashley Bengtson.

Quirke swims out of the North Shore Swimming Club in Auckland and specializes mainly in freestyle. She is a New Zealand National champion and recently won 7 medals at the 2019 New Zealand Short Course Championships, including golds in the 4×50 free, 4×50 medley and 4×100 medley relays, a 5th in the 50 free, and a 7th in the 100 free. At New Zealand Age Group Championships (LCM) last April, she was runner-up in the 50 free (26.84) and 4th in the 100 (59.06).

Quirke would have ranked in the top-5 on the Cyclones’ roster in the 50 and 100 free last season. She will join a sprint free training group led by sophomore Elynn Tan. Quirke will also overlap with Sophia Goushchina, Emily Haan, Emma Sass, and Martha Haas, all of whom were sub-24 last year.
