2015 NATION’S CAPITAL INVITATIONAL

100-yard Breaststroke

Top seed Anna Keating of the Machine Aquatics Club won the first event of the night, girls 13-14 100-yard breast, in a personal best time of 1:03.26, ahead of Jocelyn Fisher (1:04.24) and Abby Harter (1:05.06). Her teammate Joseph Schaefer also won his first event of the night on the boys side, touching the pads of the 13-14 A final in 1:00.40. Anna Belousova took the victory in the girls open event in 1:00.58, just ahead of Kaki Christensen (1:01.41). The boys open event was dominated by National Age Group Record Holder Reece Whitley, after swimming a best time of 52.56, just shy of the new 15-16 age group record (52.50) posted this morning by Michael Andrew at the 2015 Winter Juniors (West).

50-yard Breaststroke

In the girls 11-12 50-yard breast final, Jazz Barry earned the victory in 31.41, just ahead of Esther Lin, who finished in 31.83. On the boys side, it was Machine Aquatics’s Johnny Bradshaw who touched the pads first (30.57), ahead of Nation Capital’s Carson Taylor (31.19).

200-yard Freestyle

Nation’s Capital went on to win the next two events, the 13-14 girls and boys 200-yard free. Katie Mack was the only swimmer in the girls event to break the 1 minute 50 second barrier, clocking in at 1:49.14, almost 2 seconds ahead of 2nd place finisher Bridget Semenuk (1:51.13). On the boys side, Sean Conway just out touched Brian Brennan for the victory with the swimmers finishing in 1:43.76 and 1:43.92 respectively. In the girls open event, world champion Katie Ledecky improved on her morning swim, finishing way ahead of the field in 1:41.04, just splits away from Missy Franklin‘s 17-18 age group record of 1:40.31. James Murphy of the Machine Aquatics Club was the winner in the boys event, touching the pads in a time of 1:36.77.

100-yard Freestyle

Top seed for the 11-12 100-yard free Megan Lynch maintained her top spot, winning the event in 53.11, out touching Giulia Baroldi (53.21). Former National Age Group Record Holder Brett Feyerick was the only swimmer in this event to break the 50 second barrier, touching the pads in 49.10, more than 3 seconds ahead of the field.

100-yard Butterfly

Mack came back for a 2nd victory for the night in the 13-14 100-yard fly, taking almost a second off of her prelims time, clocking in at 54.97, teammate Harter touched 2nd in 56.16. For the 13-14 boys, top seed Benjamin Charles took half a second off of his prelims swim and finished first in 53.20. In the girls open 100-yard fly, Nation’s Capital had a 1-2-3 finish with Cassidy BayerKylie Jordan and Jasmine Hellmer touching in times of 52.78, 53.59 and 54.20 respectively. North Carolina Aquatic Club’s Will Macmillan was the only swimmer in the boys open event to break 48 seconds, finishing in a new personal record of 47.97.

50-yard Butterfly

After dominating the 200-yard back last night, Joy Jiang went on to win the 11-12 50-yard fly in a time of 25.84, being the only swimmer in that event to break 26 seconds. On the boys side, Chelsea Piers Athletic Club’s Tyler Sicignano won the event in 26.79, being the only swimming in that event to break 27 seconds.

400-yard IM

The girls 13-14 event, the top seed Madison Kolessar was victorious, touching the pads in 4:27.01, just ahead of 2nd place finisher Semenuk (4:29.02) and 3rd place finisher Olivia Jubin (4:29.94). In the boys 13-14, Conway came back from his 200-yard free victory to win another event of the night, shedding 4 seconds off of his prelims time and touching in a new personal best time of 4:07.97. Ledecky won her 2nd event of the night when she dominated girls open 400-yard IM and touched in a personal best time of 4:01.69. In the open boys event, 3:49.87 was good for first place, posted by Machine Aquatics’s Casey Storch.

100-yard Backstroke

In the 11-12 100-yard back, Jiang and Feyerick were winners yet again, respectively winning the girls event in 57.33 and the boys event in 52.80.

200-yard Free Relay

Host swim club, Nation’s Capital won 3 of 4 relay events of the night, after placing 2nd in the boys open 200-yard free relay. The girls 13-14 team of Harter, Keyla Brown, Jubin and Mack, touched the pads in 1:34.44, more than 3 seconds ahead of the field. Their teammates on 13-14 boys team, Peter MakinDaniel WongLeo Goldblatt and Conway also finished the race in dominating fashion, clocking in at 1:29.00. Ledecky paved the way for the girls open event for her and her teammates, Bayer, Eireni Moshos and Morgan Hill to win in a time of 1:32.16. Machine Aquatics’s A team of Carter Bennett, Murphy, Thomas Hillock and David Herbert put an end to Nation Capital’s relay winning streak when they finished the event in 1:21.70, more than half a second ahead of NCAP’s A team (1:22.13).

I can’t believe I’ve missed such a fast session because of a pathetic live webcast on SW. First, the quality was awful. And then it has completely crashed.
And please, if someone could fix the live results….

Back to swimming, it looks like that meet is the rested meet of Katie Ledecky in this SCY season.
New PB in the 200 free in 1.41.04. Her previous PB was 1.41.55.
Someone has reported on swimswam that she also swam 4.01 in the 400 IM!
That’s not very surprising. She was in 4.39 in long course not rested a few weeks ago.
She has such a huge margin of progression in that event!
