NC State’s Vazaios Swim 1:38.6 to Become 3rd Fastest 200 Flyer Ever

2018 MEN’S NCAA SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 200 fly was shaping up to be a close one, but NC State’s Andreas Vazaios remained on top as the only swimmer to break 1:39 in the final. Vazaios sat in 4th through the halfway mark, as Florida’s Jan Switkowski led in 47.12 and Indiana’s Vini Lanza was 2nd in 47.47. But Vazaios had the back half speed, hammering home in 50.65 to win it in 1:38.60.

Vazaios’ Splits:

  • 1st 50 Split- 22.54
  • 2nd 50 Split- 25.41
  • 3rd 50 Split- 25.09
  • 4th 50 Split- 25.56
  • Final Time- 1:38.60

Vazaios became the 3rd fastest swimmer of all time tonight, while Switkowski hung on to take 2nd in 1:39.55, making him the 6th fastest performer ever. Indiana’s Lanza was shortly behind in 1:39.75. Cal’s Mike Thomas came up on the back half to tie for 10th all-time with Andrew Seliskar in 1:39.95.
