Cary High School senior and Marlins of Raleigh swimmer Justin Ress has given his verbal accord to the North Carolina State Wolfpack. A 2014 USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Ress follows in the footsteps of his mother, Maya (Codelli) who was an Athletic Honor Roll swimmer for NC State in the 1980s.
“I’m super excited to swim at NC State. I had great experiences with all the schools that showed interest in me, but picked NC State for the energy the swimmers and coaches bring every day along with the engineering opportunities NCSU has to offer.”
Ress is a versatile IMer with 2016 Olympic Trials cuts in the 200/400m IM and 200m back. He won the B-final of the 200 IM at 2014 Summer Juniors and earned an invitation to USA Swimming’s National Select Camp, which takes place later this month. He is also the defending North Carolina State High School 4A champion in the 500 Freestyle.

The Wolfpack will be counting on Ress to drop the kind of time in short course yard that he did in long course meters this past summer. The NC State men only had a handful of scorers in the IMs at ACCs, most of who will have graduated by next fall. They could use even more help in the 200 back.
Ress joins Daniel Graber who committed last week. The NC State coaching staff are off to a great start in this recruiting season, having pulled in a huge group of women early in the process, and now keeping local men’s talent from crossing state borders.
