Morozov’s Double Gold Drives Russia To Top Of European SC C’ships Medal Table

2019 LEN EUROPEAN SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Day 1 of the 2019 European Short Course Championships brought us a World Junior Record in the form of Benedetta Pilato‘s 50m 29.32 breaststroke win, along with several meet records and a myriad of national records in Glasgow, Scotland.

Getting on the board for Lithuania was gold medalist Danas Rapsys, with the Olympian setting a new meet mark and national standard of 3:33.20. Polish ace Radoslaw Kawecki also got it done in the men’s 200m backstroke to give his nation a gold.

Russian Vlad Morozov reaped gold in the men’s 50m breast, with his 25.51 winning mark checking in as the new European continental record. Morozov was also a member of his nation’s gold medal-winning men’s 4x50m freestyle relay, which rendered Russia on top of the medal table through day 1.

Italy is next in line in the medals, courtesy of the aforementioned Pilato’s podium-topping 50m breast. The Iron Lady from Hungary, Katinka Hosszu, is just getting started in her 5-event campaign, giving her nation gold in the 400m IM tonight.
