Missouri sweeps SEC Swimmer of the Week awards for November 11

The Missouri Tigers swept the Swimmer of the Week honors in both genders for the SEC on November 11th with a pair of sophomores. Michael Chadwick won for the men, while Katharine Ross took home the ladies award.

Chadwick won twice to help Mizzou beat Kentucky, Northwestern and Southern Illinois in one fell swoop over the weekend. He took the 100 free (44.41) and 200 free (1:38.70) and now ranks in the NCAA’s top 25 in both events. Chadwick also helped the 400 medley relay team pick up the win.

Ross also won two individuals and added two relay wins in the Missouri Quad meet. She won the 200 IM (2:01.64) and 100 breast (1:01.15), plus swam key legs on the 200 free and 400 medley relays for the Tigers. The current school record-holder in the 100 breast, Ross now sits 9th in the NCAA so far this season.

Missouri also won the women’s Freshman of the Week award. That went to first-year Hannah Stevens originally from Ohio. Stevens won two events of her own against Kentucky, Northwestern and Southern Illinois, sweeping the backstrokes. Stevens was 54.97 and 1:57.17 in the 100 and 200 yard distances, respectively, and also swam on a pair of winning relays.

Male Freshman of the Week went to Georgia’s Gunnar Bentz. The dynamic rookie helped the Bulldogs beat Georgia Tech and the Savannah College of Art and Design by winning two individual races. bentz won the 200 free (1:38.14) and 100 fly (48.83), plus swam on the second-place 400 free relay.

Diver of the Week awards went to South Carolina’s Cole Miller and Lauren Lamendola. Each won diving events in the Gamecocks’ wins over East Carolina and College of Charleston. Miller swept both boards, while Lamendola won on 3-meter and took second on 1-meter.
