Phoenix Swim Club’s Miriam Sheehan has broken two more National Age Group Records this weekend at the 2015 Far Western Championships, continuing her tear through the record books that has lasted most of 2015, and theoretically could continue at least until she turns 11 in mid-September.
Sheehan broke records in the 50 fly, 100 fly, 50 back, and 100 back in San Jose – all records that she previously held.
- 50 fly – old record 29.84, new record 29.48
- 100 fly – old record 1:08.22, new record 1:07.42
- 50 back – old record 32.30, new record 32.18
She also scared her record of 1:09.36 in the 100 meter back, but wound up just short in finals with a 1:09.47.
Sheehan remains the holder of 5 unique National Age Group Records: these four in long course, plus the 50 fly in short course.
Ahhhhh…I raced next to Miriam on my 50 back finals. I still can’t believe it happened because she’s way above my level and I nearly passed out when we shook hands at the end of the race. Congrats Miriam, you’ll be amazing in the eleven twelves! Kill em!

I was at this meet where Miriam was competing and she was a topic of conversation from all coaches. At a young age she has been able to develop incredible underwaters and distance per stroke in all the strokes. Her tempo looks comfortable which is unusual for a 10 and under with such fast times. I’m guessing that this girl is going to continue to be special as she gets older since it is obvious that she has spent so much time perfecting technique. Congrats to her and her coaches
