The final night of the RBC Canadian Junior Championships saw some familiar names back on the top of the podium.
Asia Minnes won her 5th gold and sixth total medal of the competition, locking down the girls 13-14 200 IM in a time of 2:19.40. Emma O’Croinin of Edmonton Keyano continued her successful meet with the silver in 2:22.14.
O’Croinin was back in action a bit later, winning the 400 freestyle in a time of 4:24.59 over Kate Sullivan (4:26.80) and Brooklyn Douthwright (4:26.87). O’Croinin finishes the meet with two gold and six total individual medals.
Douthwright also had another podium finish earlier in the night in the 50 free, losing out to Genevieve Sasseville of the Chatham Y Pool Sharks by one one-hundredth, 26.85 to 26.86. Ainsley McMurray of Cote Saint-Luc won the 15-17 50 in a time of 26.06 over Kyla Leibel (26.47) of Red Deer Catalina.
Colin Wang of Mississauga won the boys 14-16 50 free in a very close race, clocking 24.18 to take gold over Canek Brancho (24.21) of Club Warriors and Everett Smith (24.22) of Sudbury Laurentian.
CAMO’s Mehdi Ayoubi continued to impress with a fast 50 free win in the boys 17-18 category, hitting the wall in 22.71 to take out Markham’s Ruslan Gaziev (23.01).
Aela Janvier wrapped up her successful meet with another medal, this time gold in the 15-17 200 IM, as the Pointe-Claire swimmer clocked 2:17.69 over Markham’s Victoria Kwan (2:18.35).
Breaststrokers Owen Huang (2:06.06) and Frederik Kamminga (2:04.91) added to their medal hauls with victories in the boys 200 IM events. Huang picks up his third individual gold after sweeping the breaststrokes, while Kamminga wins his second gold after winning the 100 breast earlier.
Marit Anderson of the Calgary Patriots added the 400 (4:17.52) to her 800 free title, defeating Oakville’s Mabel Zavaros (4:17.71).
Etobicoke’s Justin Konik (4:00.22) and Island’s Mathew Fuller (4:00.14) finished off the individual events with golds in the boys 14-16 and 17-18 400 frees, both finishing with three individuals golds apiece.
Toronto (4:15.18) managed to edge Oakville (4:15.66) in the girls 400 medley relay, with Katja Pavicevic‘s 1:11.7 breast leg the difference maker for TSC.
CAMO ran away with the title in the boys medley, with a sizzling anchor of 49.51 coming from Ayoubi.
Cascade came out on top for boys with 625 points, while Pointe-Claire dominated the girls side (480) and came out with a decisive combined win with 1055.5 points over Cascade (886) and Etobicoke (861).
