Michigan Women Grab Another Top-20 Recruit, Carolyn McCann

One of the few uncommitted women that we had ranked in the top 20 in the class of 2014 has made her decision: Carolyn McCann will be yet another big score for the Michigan Wolverines women.

McCann is one of the top breaststrokers in the class of 2014, with yards bests of 1:00.93 and 2:14.33. After the graduation of Angie Chokran following the 2013-2014 season, a swimmer who had a really great year last season, Michigan would have been a bit thin in the breaststrokes. With the addition of McCann and Junior National Teamer Emily Kopas (1:02.0/2:12.5), though, this will be just one more strength on this Wolverine roster going forward.

She and Kopas make really good complements to each other. McCann is a little better in yards than she is in meters. Kopas is a little better in meters than she is in yards. Kopas is a little better in the 200 than the 100. McCann is a little better in the 100 than the 200.

What that means is that both swimmers will have the opportunity to get pushed by the other through their four years together at some point, and that sort of intrasquad competitiveness could be very good for both swimmers.

McCann, who swims for the King Aquatic Club, was a part of their 17-18 National Age Group Record setting 200 medley relay.
