The Michigan Wolverine men are in pursuit of their fifth-straight Big Ten title this weekend, and they started the week on a high note, sweeping the Big Ten weekly awards.
The Wolverines hosted their annual “First Chance Meet” last weekend, leading to Big Ten awards for sophomore Julian Ballestas and freshman Paul Powers.

Swimmer of the Week
Julian Ballestas, Michigan
So. – Miami, Fla. – Belen Jesuit
• Collected a first, second and fifth-place finish at Michigan’s First Chance Meet
• Finished first in the 200 freestyle (1:36.83), second in the 200 butterfly (1:47.19) and fifth in the 50 freestyle (20.74), while lowering his 200 butterfly in a time trial (1:46.10)
• Claimed NCAA provisional qualifying times in the 200 freestyle and both 200 butterfly swims
• Earns his first career Swimmer of the Week honor
• Last Michigan Swimmer of the Week: Dylan Bosch (Jan. 27, 2015)
Freshman of the Week
Paul Powers, Michigan
Fr. – Gainesville, Ga. – North Hall
• Tallied a first-place finish as the opening leg on the 200 freestyle relay (1:17.06), recording a new pool record
• Recorded an NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 200 freestyle relay, and an NCAA provisional qualifying time as the leadoff leg in the relay with a time of 19.51 seconds
• Earns his third Freshman of the Week award
