Michael Phelps: His Greatest Achievement at the Ryder Cup

This week, Michael Phelps was able to cross yet another thing off of an already incredible bucket list.  During a taping of the Ryder Cup-themed “Feherty Live” Phelps was introduced to his life-long idol, Michael Jordan.  So overwhelmed by His Airness’ presence, Phelps was barely able to utter a word.

“That’s the only person in the world who could do that to me,” Phelps stated to USA Today. “He’s the greatest.”

So greatness meets greatness.  It’s just another thing that MP has done over the last several years that just makes me say, “Wow,” in envy of how awesome his life has been.  I understand that it’s the product of years of  hard work that would break any other man, but I think that just makes his new retired lifestyle that much more fun to watch.

I began to think, in Phelps’ mind, was meeting MJ the greatest moment of his life?  I mean, how could it be?  He’s won, let’s just say, a lot of gold medals.  He’s the Greatest Olympian of All Time, and he’s got endorsement deals that have him set for life.  He can get free Subway WHENEVER he wants.  That alone, is impressive (Quiznos is cat food by the way).

So what will he look back on in 50 years and say, “Man, that was awesome!” The answer, to me, is so simple that I don’t know why I never thought of it before.  Michael Phelps’ greatest achievement is having Morgan Freeman personally narrate several commercials about him.

If that were me, I would carry around a portable DVD player with each commercial constantly playing on loop, with the volume as loud as it could possibly go.  It’s MORGAN FREEMAN.  The man played God, in TWO movies!  His voice is so serene, penguins could march to it.  He is an Academy Award winning actor who gave Batman his gadgets.  Has it sunk in for you all yet?  THE Morgan Freeman made commercials praising Michael Phelps.

“Hey Mike, where are all of your gold medals?”

“Oh, those are in a box in the basement at my mom’s.  Have you seen all these TV’s in my trophy case?  Yea they are all of MY Morgan Freeman commercials.  I’m thinking of selling those things on CashForGold.com anyway.  I’m not going to ever wear them.  Who am I, MC Hammer?”

“Oh wow…yea good call.”

Go World.
