Michael Phelps Goes To Shark School, Races Great White

We reported back in March how 23-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps would be appearing in some fashion during the Discovery network’s annual ‘Shark Week’ television event, but now we know more details on the GOAT’s line-up. Entering its 29th season, Shark Week has tapped Phelps to appear both on the opening evening of July 23rd and the closing night of July 30th.

Below are the 2 programs in which Phelps will appear, as well as the network’s description of each episode.

Phelps vs. Shark: Great Gold vs. Great White, Sunday, July 23 at 8pm ET

They are one of the fastest and most efficient predators on the planet: Sharks. He is our greatest champion to ever get in the water: Michael Phelps. 39 world records. 23 Olympic golds. But he has one competition left to win. An event so monumental no one has ever attempted it before. The world’s most decorated athlete takes on the ocean’s most efficient predator: Phelps V Shark – the race is on! Produced by Peacock Productions.

Shark School with Michael Phelps, Sunday, July 30 at 8pm ET

Michael Phelps joins Doc Gruber and Tristan Guttridge of the Bimini Shark Lab to get a crash course on everything ‘shark.’ They’ll dispel the myths and common misconceptions, teach him how to safely dive with sharks – including how to stay calm when a hammerhead swims two feet above his face – and will get Michael Phelps up close and personal with the incredible power of a great white. Produced by Peacock Productions.

Great reading so many ironic (perhaps a bit disrespectful?) comments towards someone, I doesn’t like the word legend, but certainly has written the history of our sport from 2000 to 2016
Lately irony in Usa seems to be so diffused.. The problem is regarding some of us, Usa aliens, who didn’t understand, for instance, the irony in Trump’s election

Phelps was being disrespectful when he tried to sound like he was better than everyone else in 2009 by “not” using super suit

Everyone knows that Speedo Lzr used by Phelps, Lochte and very few others at Worlds2009 was far less efficient than the 100 per cent poly suits used approximately by the 98 per cent of the participants at those Worlds.
So, Phelps’ words were true because at those Worlds he didn’t use the real super suits available (Arena, Adidas, Jaked) as, for instance, did all the Aussie and almost all the Usa swimmers (throwing away the contract and sponsorship with Speedo).

Hopefully he complains about the shark skin acting like a tech suit and also accuses the shark of doping

What’s next? Racing Dolphins? Sharks have ruined our sport- Michael Phelps after he gets utterly smoked by something that can go 25

Just a good way to remind ourselves that no matter how “fast” we get, humans are bottom of the food chain inside the ocean.

I don’t know if I am ecstatic or perplexed.

Kinda hoping for him to unleash some dirty dolphin kicks in an illegal super suit (I’m thinking super high tech material and fins on the side for a start) that he’s had his company working on specifically so that he actually beats the shark.
