17-year old Michael Andrew doubled up on the final night of the Columbia Sectionals to win both the 200 IM and 50 free at the University of Missouri.

In the 200 IM, Andrew finished in 2:01.36 after rocketing out in 24.83 for his fly leg. That was actually .16 faster than he went out in his 200 IM during semis at Olympic Trials, where he posted a lifetime best of 1:59.44. Last night, though, he was just 35.50 and 30.45 on the breast and free legs as compared to his 34.21 and 29.88 in Omaha.

Andrew returned for the 50 free, dropping four tenths from the morning to clock a 22.55 for the win, off of his 22.22 PR.

Evie Pfeifer, meanwhile, won the women’s 200 IM by nearly two seconds. Her 2:16.72 was a lifetime best by just over a tenth. Lauren Votava took the women’s 50 free in 26.16, a lifetime best by .15 for the University of Minnesota alumna.

In the 1500 free races, Missouri State’s Minki Kang was the sole man under 16 minutes with a 15:50.97, while Alexis Daniels turned in a 17:20.46 to win the women’s race.

The Kansas City Blazers eked out a win in the women’s 400 medley relay, posting a 4:19.56 to touch just ahead of Columbia Swim Club (4:19.56). For the men, it was Missouri State in 3:49.04, led by a 56.64 back leg from Paul Le.

24.83 for the fly leg? Dang that is FAST. Actually faster than Phelps and Lochte right? Or just as.

Yep, right up there with both Phelps and Lochte in the fly leg. Lochte was out in 24.8 when he set the record back in 2011.
