Michael Andrew Breaks National Age Group Record in 100 Yard Fly at Minneapolis Grand Prix

Michael Andrew has broken the 13-14 National Age Group Record in the 100 yard fly on night 1 of the 2013 Minneapolis Grand Prix, swimming a 48.78 to take 5th place in the B-Final.

Though several of his records have been broken in the last year, he now sits with 12 in the youngest three age groups recognized by USA Swimming.

The swim broke a tie at 48.98 between a swim by Andrew earlier this year and a 2010 swim by now-USC freshman Michael Domagala.

Andrew’s splits, by 25, were 10.21, 12.39, 12.93, and 13.25. By 50, that comes out to 22.60-26.18. Given how he usually trains, he and his father/coach Peter Andrew will likely have an even lower mark in mind before Andrew ages up at the end of next summer – their goal is typically to split the two 50’s of 100 yard/meter races a bit closer than that.

Andrew has one more swim in the evening session – he will race in the C-Final of the 100 yard breaststroke, which comes after all of the A & B finals are complete. In the morning prelims, he was just .05 seconds away from Tanner Kurz’s 13-14 NAG Record in that race.
