Miami (OH) Women Take Down Cincinnati, Cincinnati Men Edge Out Miami

The Miami University women’s team (178-118), and the Cincinnati men’s team (151-147) grabbed dual victories last night in an exciting meet where, on the men’s side, it came down to the final relay.

Women’s Meet

Miami swept the relays in the women’s competition, grabbing first and second place in the 200 medley. In that event, the Redhawk ‘A’ relay of Brittany Dudzinski, Stephanie Lemire, Peyton Mosbaugh, and Natalie Rohr finished first in 1:46.27, followed by their ‘C’ relay of Emma Szczupakiewicz, Lainey Massaro, Allison Pierce, and Michele Rielly (1:47.98).

Miami outswam Cincinnati again in the 400 free relay, where Logan KlinskyGabby Veri, Rohr, and Sara Krueger clocked 3:32.52 to Cincinnati’s Amanda Deller, Lindsey Niehaus, Shea Hanley, and Caroline Sheehan‘s 3:36.15.

One of the biggest neck-to-neck races of the night was the 200 free, where Klinsky of Miami and Sydney King of Cincinnati held right together the entire race. In the end, Klinsky outtouched King by just a hair, 1:53.82 to 1:53.87.

The 100 back was equally close, but here, the the Cincinnati swimmer prevailed. Neihaus finished the race in 57.33, just .05 ahead of Miami’s Dudzinski’s 57.38. Miami’s Katie Kuhl just missed the top two, finishing in 57.65.

Besides winning both relays, Miami made a major point-grab in the 100 free, where the team swept first through third place. Krueger took the win in 52.80, followed by teammates Rohr (52.87), Klinsky (53.58), and Mosbaugh (53.79), an exhibition swimmer whose points didn’t count. Krueger swept the sprint free events with a win in the 50 in 24.22.

Other big wins for Miami came from Lemire, who took both breast events and the 200 IM (100 breast: 1:04.57, 200 breast: 2:20.52, 200 IM: 2:08.96); Rielly, who won the 200 back in 2:03.51; Lin Pei, who won the 1 meter event with 321.90 and the 3 meter with 290.92; and Mosbaugh, who won the 100 fly in 57.01.

The University of Cincinnati also grabbed wins from Sara Wanasek (1000 free: 10:24.17), Samantha Wheatley (200 fly: 2:07.00), and Taylor Myszka (500 free: 5:05.56)

Men’s Meet

The men’s meet came right down to the wire, when two huge DQs in the 400 free relay secured Cincinnati’s win. The relay was a face-off between Miami’s ‘A’ team, Jack Strauss, Lucas Brock, Ross Westerick, and Chris Dieter, and Cincinnati’s Connor Davis, Eitan Holder, Dima Turkin, and Hunter Pasek. In the end, both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ Miami teams were disqualified for early take-offs, and Cincinnati swept the relay points, cinching their five-point victory, 151-147.

Cincinnati also took the win in the 200 medley, where Turkin, Ludo Corsini, Holder, and Alex Hutchinson finished in 1:33.18, nearly two seconds ahead of Miami’s 1:34.94.

Bearcats Holder and Davis tripled up on wins, given their double relay victories. Davis grabbed the win in the 200 freestyle in 1:41.31, touching first in a close race with Miami’s Dieter (1:41.84). Holder edged out Davis in the 100 free, finishing in 46.54 to Davis’s second-place 46.71.

Cincinnati’s Chris Bready destroyed the competition in the 1000 free, finishing in 9:19.92, 25 seconds ahead of the competition. In a similar style, he took another win in the 500 free, finishing in 4:34.94, five and a half seconds ahead of the field.

In an incredibly close and exciting 200 back, Bearcats Todd Brannon and Matt McDonald took on Jake Precious, a RedHawk. Brannon emerged victorious, clocking 1:52.81 and just edging out Precious’s 1:52.86. McDonald finished third in 1:53.24.

Other big wins for Cincinnati came from Corsini in the 100 breast (56.18); Ryan DePietro in the 200 fly (1:53.65).

Miami swept both diving events, nearly monopolizing the points for the events. On the 1 meter, Sean Sargent, Cole Fryman, and Harrison Moncino grabbed first through third, respectively. On the 3 meter, Moncino took the win, followed by Fryman and Ryan Nash. 

Miami swimmers Precious (100 back: 51.93), Lucas Brock (50 free: 21.27), Evan Bader (200 breast: 2:05.50), Pete Simcox (100 fly: 50.49), and Ross Rybakowicz (200 IM: 1:54.71) also scored wins for the RedHawks.
