The Fighting Illini took care of business with two event victories and 11 career best swims on the final day of the meet for a total of 31 over the course of the three day event. The highlight of the day was the first place 200 medley relay, done by the squad of Alison Meng, Erica Lynn, Lori Lynn and Courtney Pope which finished in 1:42.71 – third fastest in the program’s history. Meng also added an individual event victory in the 100 butterfly, touching first in 55.25, a time which puts her second on the Illinois all-time list.

The Big Red women’s final day was filled with strong swims. Their 200 medley relay – the team of Carolyn Kane, Natalie Lugg, Ashley Yearwood and Morgan Nuess – posted a 1:42.80 to finish a bare .09 behind the Illinois squad. Kane posted sixth place in both the 100 butterfly (56.40) and 100 freestyle (51.53). Lugg took seventh in both her 200 IM (2:06.18) and 200 breaststroke  (2:18.80). Campbell Costley and Taylor Johns were 5-6 in the 500 with times of 4:55.98 and 4:56.89, respectively. Molly Willingham gave DU a sixth place finish in the 200 back at 2:02.64. Courtney McDermott led the way for the Eagle women on Saturday, taking the 500 freestyle by storm. She swam a 4:51.84 on her way to victory. While McDermott was the only individual event winner of the day, the Eagles still managed some impressive times. The 200 medley relay of  Ellie Thompson, Annelise Kowalsky, Nina Zook and Nancy Larson were fifth with a 1:44.59. The 200 backstroke put the talents of Thompson back on display – she clocked a 2:01.83 for third place and Sadie Nennig followed her in fourth at 2:01.97. Elizabeth Arnoff gave the Eagles a third place finish in the 200 breaststroke at 2:16.31) and Kowalsky gave Emory a runner up finish in the 200 IM at 2:04.36.

On the men’s side, DU was busy setting water on fire. Sean Chabot, Damon Rosenburg, Andrew Rich and Ryan Fleming broke a Denison varsity record set last year in the 200 medley relay by .01, touching in at 1:28.65. Next, Rosenburg delivered a second place 2:02.75 in the 200 breaststroke in the finals, after having set a new school record in prelims at 2:01.37. Carlos Maciel gave DU another victory in the 100 freestyle, posting a time of 45.29. Chabot got in on the action – his 1:48.38 in the 200 backstroke was good for victory. Jackson Humphrey – third in the 200 back at 1:49.64 – claimed his own individual title in the fully loaded 200 IM at 1:50.87. Five teammates joined him in the top heat. Rich settled for runner up after posting a 48.76 in prelims, finishing with a 49.23. Al Weik and his 4:31.53 landed him in third in the 500.

The RedHawks were led by Evan Bader, Grant Stafford and Joe Baumgartner. Bader took second in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:02.57, and helped Miami’s 200 medley relay to a fourth place finish (1:31.83). Stafford gave the RedHawks a fifth place in the 100 fly, touching in at 49.75. Baumgartner was also fifth in the 100 freestyle (45.61) and contributed to Miami’s fourth place 400 freestyle relay team (3:04.07).

For Wright State, Kile Aukerman was fourth in the 200 IM (1:51.85). Matt Dassow took fifth in the 500 freestyle, touching in at 4:34.51. Csongor Bajnoczki was also fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:04.12) and Alec Carnell took eighth in the 100 freestyle (46.27).

For the fourth place Eagles, Hayden Baker and Andrew Wilson both took home gold. Baker claimed a win in the 100 butterfly (48.80) while Wilson took the 200 breaststroke in 2:01.24. The Eagles had plenty of runner up finishes to bolster their points, though. The 200 medley relay team of Ross Spock, Wilson, Baker and Ryan Bass powered their way to a second place finish in 1:29.03. Jared Scheuer was runner up in the 200 backstroke at 1:48.79. Baker’s brother Christian Baker added a runner up finish in the 500 freestyle (4:29.36) to his tally while Spock took second in the 100 freestyle at 45.37. The Eagles finished out the final day with a third place 400 freestyle relay – 3:02.49.
