McKendree Adds Eleanore Stevens as Assistant Coach

(LEBANON, Ill., June 27)—McKendree University swimming and diving coach Jimmy Tierney announced recently that Eleanore Stevens will be joining the Bearcats’ coaching staff for the inaugural 2016-17 season. Stevens will be a graduate assistant for both the men’s and women’s teams.

“McKendree is very fortunate to secure the services of such a fabulous young coach and wonderful person,” said Tierney. “Elli has been incredibly excited about this opportunity and will bring a high level of energy to the Bearcat program. As a former collegiate swimmer herself, she is well aware of the commitment level that is necessary for an NCAA student-athlete to achieve success both in the pool and in the classroom. Ellie will be a tremendous addition to McKendree athletics and the Bearcat community. I am very pleased and anxious for her to get on board.”

Stevens joins the McKendree staff after spending the past year as a volunteer assistant coach at Colgate University in upstate New York. There, her primary role was to coach the backstroke group for the Raiders’ men’s and women’s programs. With Stevens’ help, the Colgate men enjoyed their most successful season in a decade. In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Stevens maintained the program’s social media accounts, managed the recruiting database and coordinated efforts during meets with scoring systems and statistical software.

As a student-athlete, Stevens was a four-year member of the swim team at Youngstown State University. She was a four-year varsity letter winner and twice earned the program’s Most Inspirational Award. Stevens specialized in distance freestyle events while competing for the Penguins. Away from the pool, Stevens earned Scholar-Athlete recognition while at Youngstown State.

A native of Lexington, Ohio, Stevens graduated from Youngstown State with a bachelor’s degree in 2014.
