Madeleine Kovacs Verbally Commits to University of Vermont

Scottsdale Aquatic Club’s Madeleine Kovacs has made her college decision, as she’s just announced her verbal commitment to swim for the University of Vermont in the NCAA. Kovacs will be making the move to Vermont after graduating from Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, Arizona, where she’s currently a team captain and 4-year varsity letter winner.

Last season, Kovacs established herself as a City Champion in the 200 free. She later went on to finish in the top 16 of both the 100 free and 200 free at the Arizona Division 1 State Championships. While at Desert Vista, she’s helped the team to a State Championship title in 2013 and a runner-up finish at last season’s state meet.

Kovacs’ Top Times:

  • 100 free- 53.76
  • 200 free- 1:54.96
  • 500 free- 5:07.72
  • 1650 free- 17:55.42
  • 200 fly- 2:13.66
  • 400 IM- 4:37.11

Kovacs should have an immediate impact for the Catamounts at the America East Championships, as she’s already fast enough to have scored at last season’s conference meet in the B-final of 4 different events: the 200 free, 500 free, 1650 free, and 400 IM.

At Vermont, Kovacs will train with a freestyle group that includes Kira Hancock, who placed 6th in the 100 free at the 2016 America East meet. She’ll also be training alongside Kelly Lennon, who finished 6th in the 200 free at that meet.
