At day six finals Hrafnhildur Luthersdottir broke her own Icelandic record in the women’s 50 breast, qualifying her 3rd overall for the final. The record finished off the national record sweep for Luthersdottir, who broke both the 100 and 200 breast national records earlier in the meet. Luthersdottir’s semi-final time was 30.83, breaking her old record of 30.90 which she set at the 2015 World Championships in Kazan (did it in both the prelims and semis).

In the final today Luthersdottir fell just short of her record, clocking 30.91 to win the silver. That gives Luthersdottir her third medal of the competition, the third in her country’s history at the LC European Championships.

Earlier in the meet Luthersdottir claimed silver in the 100 in a new record of 1:06.45, which was the first medal by Icelandic swimmer at the Europeans. She went onto win bronze in the 200 in another national record of 2:22.96.

2015 world champion Jennie Johansson came out on top in the 50m final in 30.81, while Finland’s Jenna Laukkanen grabbed bronze in 30.95.

Luthersdottir’s semi-final swim puts her 11th in the world this season in the 50 breast.
