Louisiana State Swimming & Track Champion Commits to SMU

Notre Dame Senior Erin Trahan is signing her National Letter of Intent to swim for Southern Methodist University in Dallas next fall. Erin has swum for Notre Dame for all four years of high school and also swims year round for Crawfish Aquatics in Lafayette. Recently Trahan said, “When I visited SMU last month, the girls on the team made me feel really welcome and the small school environment made me feel at home. Coach Collins has a long history of building great swim teams and I can’t wait to be a part of that kind of program.”

Best times in yards:

  • 50 free – 23.70
  • 100 free – 52.27
  • 100 fly – 54.87
  • 100 breast – 1:05.45
  • 200 IM – 2:08.87

Erin swims primarily sprint freestyle/butterfly events but has significantly improved her IM and breaststroke races this past year. She holds the all-time Notre Dame and Southwest Swim League Records in 5 individual events: the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly, 100 breast, and 200 IM.

Trahan was named the Louisiana High School Division 3 Female Athlete of the Meet for the past two years and will be trying to defend her 50 Free and 100 Butterfly records next week in Sulphur at the State meet. Additionally, she is the current LHSAA all time record holder in the 100 Butterfly.

In addition to swimming for Notre Dame, Erin has been swimming year-round for the past five years with Crawfish Aquatics, where in addition to individual records she’s a part of 15 team-record holding relays for.

When Erin isn’t in the pool, she can often be found on the track at Notre Dame. She is the 2014 LHSAA Division 3 State Champion in the 1600 Meter run.
