The University of Tennessee Lady Volunteers has their first verbal commitment from the senior class of 2014.

Logan Coulson Moore of Chantilly, Virginia announced her verbal agreement last Sunday during her official visit to Knoxville.  Coulson becomes just the second legacy swimmer in the history of the Lady Vol’s program: Her mom also swam at Tennessee.

The Lady Vol commit was also recruited by Florida, Arizona State, Alabama and Virginia Tech.

Logan swims for Coach Peter Ward of the Mason Makos Swim Team in the Potomac Valley region (also the head coach at George Mason University).

Coach Ward has described her as “an up and coming swimmer with great potential.”

As a senior captain for Chantilly High School, Logan expects to compete in her fourth consecutive Virginia State meet.  Logan has qualified for Winter Nationals in the 100 and 200 Backstroke and says that she is excited to swim in Knoxville next year.

In yards, Coulson has been 56.86 and 2:00.79 in the 100 and 200 backstrokes. Tennessee is loaded in this race, with seniors Lauren Solernou and Kate McNeilis, as well as sophomore Maddie Hahn, all being faster than 53.50 this season.

All of those backstrokers have made significant improvements in their time at Tennessee, especially Solernou, who in year one dropped her best time in the 100 by almost two full seconds.

Coulson has a ton of upside for the Volunteers, too. According to Heather Haddock, the Owner/President of the team, she’s only training five 90 minute sessions a week right now, plus two 30 minute dryland sessions. Even with that limited work, her times progression has been impressive. Between January of 2012 and the spring of 2013 alone, she knocked 1.3 seconds off of her time in the 100 back to push herself into the elite category of recruits.
