LBSU’s Kotanchyan’s 19-Goal Haul Leads WWP Week 7 Conference Honorees

Long Beach State’s Elena Kotanchyan logged a career-high seven goals twice on the weekend at the Wolverine Invitational en route to a 19-goal tournament tally. The effort earned Kotanchyan Big West Player of the Week honors.

Below is a list of all of the Week 7 conference players of the week.

Big West

Player of the Week: Elena Kotanchyan, Long Beach State – Racked up 19 goals as the 49ers went 3-1 at the Wolverine Invitational; dropped in a career high seven goals in a 22-11 win over Saint Francis (Pa.) and in a 17-14 victory over #22 Bucknell; put in two goals in a 12-9 loss to #7 Michigan; logged a hat trick and a steal in a 13-7 win over Santa Clara; dished out three assists and added a steal vs. Saint Francis.

CWPA

Player of the Week: Maddie O’Reilly, Michigan – notched a goal and two assists in a 15-3 win over Santa Clara; tallied three goals and five assists in a 12-9 win over #15 Long Beach State; logged three goals and two assists in a 14-6 win against Iona; put in a  hat trick and added five assists in a 15-6 win over #22 Bucknell; recorded a field block in all four games.

Defensive Player of the Week: Marissa Webb, Princeton – Grabbed 22 saves in the Tigers’ wins over Villanova and George Washington; made 10 stops and added an assist in a 14-6 win over Villanova; registered 12 saves and an assist in a 12-8 conference win over GW.

Rookie of the Week: Anne Rankin, Michigan – Netted two goals and added an assist in a 15-3 win over Santa Clara; registered two goals, two steals and an assist in a 12-9 win over #15 Long Beach State; put in one goal and added a steal in a 14-6 win over Iona; notched two goals in a 15-6 win vs. #22 Bucknell.

GCC

Player of the Week:

Kira O’Donell, Cal Baptist – Put in seven goals, including a hat trick in an 11-8 loss to RV Cal State East Bay; added six assists, eight drawn ejections and five steals on the weekend at the Tina Finali Invitational; scored twice and managed two steals and an assist in an 8-7 win over Fresno Pacific; tallied a goal and an assist in a 16-5 win over Cal State Monterey Bay; accounted for a goal, two assists and two steals in a 12-9 victory against Sonoma State.

Maggie Oys, Santa Clara – Registered seven goals, three assists, six steals and three earned ejections in four games at the Wolverine Invitational; scored once in a 15-3 loss to #7 Michigan; added two goals, an assist and a steal in a 10-7 win over Iona; put in two goals in a 13-7 win over Saint Francis (Pa.); notched two goals and two assists in a 13-7 loss to #15 Long Beach State.

MAAC

Offensive Player of the Week: Emma Noble, VMI – Paced the Keydets with 11 goals, 11 assists and seven drawn exclusions over five matches, including four wins at the Grove City Invitational; notched a goal and two assists in a 12-7 win over Mercyhurst; scored three times and added three assists and two steals in a 14-11 win over Salem; accounted for two goals and two assists in an 11-10 win over Gannon; logged a goal and two assists in a 23-11 victory over Grove City; wrapped the weekend with four goals and two assists in a 19-2 road win over Wittenberg.

Defensive Player of the Week: Isabel French, VMI – Logged 28 saves, boasted a 52% save percentage and added seven steals in three contests at the Grove City Invitational; made five saves and added two steals and an assist in a 12-7 win over Mercyhurst; grabbed 10 saves to go with three steals in a 14-11 win over Salem; made 13 saves and added two steals and one assist in an 11-10 win over Gannon.

Rookie of the Week: Catherine Ahumada, VMI – Tallied nine goals, eight assists, seven steals and eight drawn exclusions as the Keydets extended their win streak to a program record nine matches; posted a goal and two assists in a 12-7 win over Mercyhurst; notched three goals and three assists in a 23-11 win over Grove City; racked up a goal, two assists and two steals in a 19-2 win over Wittenberg.

MPSF

Player of the Week: Megan Abarta, Indiana – Notched 12 goals, two assists and a team-best six steals in four wins at the Tina Finali Invitational; tallied two goals, two assists and two steals in a 17-3 win over Fresno Pacific; scored four times and grabbed three steals in a 21-7 win vs. Cal Lutheran; logged hat tricks against Cal State Monterey Bay (17-5) and Cal State East Bay (17-10).

Newcomer of the Week: Zoe Crouch, Indiana – Racked up eight goals in four games at the Tina Finali Invitational; scored two goals and added two steals in a 17-3 win over Fresno Pacific; added two goals and a steal in a 21-7 victory over Cal Lutheran; tallied a goal and a steal in a 17-5 win over Cal State Monterey Bay; logged her first career hat trick and chipped in an assist in a 17-10 win over Cal State East Bay.

SCIAC

Offensive Athlete of the Week: Lexi Rond, Cal Lutheran – Scored 17 goals as CLU went 4-1; put in five goals, including the game winner in a 12-11 decision over Chapman; tacked on five goals in a 21-7 loss to Indiana; accounted for two goals and an assist in a 16-11 win over Fresno Pacific; logged a hat trick in an 11-10 win over LIU Brooklyn; put in two goals in a 10-6 win over Lindenwood.

Defensive Athlete of the Week: Kaitlin Gardhouse, Cal Lutheran – Registered 10 steals, seven assists and 11 drawn ejections as CLU went 4-1 on the week; tallied four steals in a 12-11 conference win over Chapman; drew four ejections each in wins over Chapman (12-11) and Fresno Pacific (16-11).

WWPA

Player of the Week: Cassidy Mundt, Sonoma State – Put in 15 goals as the Seawolves went 3-1 at the Tina Finali Invitatinal; logged five-goal efforts against Chapman (W 14-6) and Cal Baptist (L 12-9); chipped in two goals in a 14-4 win over Lindenwood; scored three times in a 14-6 victory over Austin College.
