Laura Manaudou and Fred Bousquet are Parents

According to a release on the French Federation of Swimming website, Frederique Bosquet and Laura Manaudou of France became happy parents of 8.14-pound baby girl Manon. Manon was born on April 2nd in Marseilles.

Manaudou and Bosquet are the world’s premier swimming super couple in a country where swimming is a prime-time sport, making the pregnancy fodder for much of the media. Both have held world records during their careers, and Manudou was the 2004 Olympic gold medalist in the 400 freestyle. While Manaudou announced her retirement from swimming last September, shortly after becoming pregnant, Bosquet is still one of the fastest pure sprinters in the world. He will compete in next week’s French Championships to try and earn a spot for this summer’s European Championships.

The French press release muses that baby Manon just barely missed being born under the sign of Pisces, or the fish, and that she’ll have to settle for being just a little mermaid. Is there any doubt that this kid is going to be a great swimmer? Congratulations to Bosquet and Manaudou on their bundle of joy!

(editor’s note: Under the Hindu or sidereal system of astrology, which varies from the western system slightly, the baby WAS born under the sign of the Pisces. And now you know.)
