On-fire Ranomi Kromowidjojo wrapped up her Eindhoven Qualification Meet campaign with another gold medal, nearing her lifetime best in the women’s 50m fly in the process. This was after the Olympic medalist already produced head-turning results of 24.11 in the 50m free and 53.13 in the 100m free.
After establishing herself as the top-seeded swimmer of the morning heats with a mark of 25.82, Kromo unleashed a speedy 25.36 to shut down the field and beat the next-closest competitor by nearly a second. Runner-up went to Femke Heemskerk, who logged 26.34, while Kim Busch rounded out the top 3 in 26.36
For perspective, Kromo’s time here tonight almost beats the 25.35 she produced for the silver medal in Gwangju at the 2019 FINA World Championships. It also almost exceeds her personal best of 25.32 which she posted just last December at the Rotterdam Qualification Meet.
Another high-profile swimmer in the water tonight was Arno Kamminga, the man who owns the Dutch national records across all three long course breaststroke distances.
Kamminga came into the wall this morning in a heats time of 2:08.48 before claiming gold tonight in 2:09.30. Both outings are off his season-best, but that is represented by a monster 2:06.85.
Additional Notes:
- Tes Schouten produced the fastest 200m breaststroke time for the women, hitting 2:27.14 for gold.
- Austria’s Bernhard Reitshammer proved too speedy for the men’s 1back field, with the 26-year-old topping the podium in 55.01.
- Germany’s Annika Bruhn checked in with a winning 200m free mark of 1:57.37. That fell just shy of the FINA ‘A’ cut of 1:57.28 needed to qualify for the postponed Summer Olympic Games.
- The men’s 200m free saw Henning Muehlleitner nab the top prize in 1:48.08, just .20 ahead of Poul Zellman‘s 1:48.28.
