Klete Keller Discussing Plea Deal In Capitol Riot Charges

U.S. Olympian Klete Keller and the U.S. Department of Justice are discussing a plea bargain for Keller’s role in the January 6 riot at the Capitol.

Keller, a three-time U.S. Olympian, was identified in video footage among a group that broke into the United States Capitol Building and clashed with police on January 6, 2021.

On January 6th, supporters of President Donald Trumpwho lost the 2020 presidential election, broke into the United States Capitol Building and clashed with police. The riot happened as Congress was tallying electoral votes in last November’s election, in which now-President Joe Biden defeated Trump. Five people died or were killed amid the mob, including Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick.

Multiple people within the swimming community identified Keller in video footage of the mob of people who had broken into the Capitol Rotunda. The 6’6″ Keller stood out in videos due to his height, and because he appears to be wearing his U.S. Olympic gear in the video.

Keller was indicted on seven charges for his role in the riot, including:

  • Civil disorder
  • Obstruction of an official proceeding, and aiding and abetting
  • Entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds
  • Disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds
  • Impeding passage through the Capitol Grounds or buildings
  • Parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building

In March, Keller pleaded not guilty to the charges. But new court documents filed today show that Keller has been discussing a plea agreement in the case.

Prosecutors filed a motion – unopposed by Keller’s defense counsel – to delay proceedings against Keller. Prosecutors cited the vast scale of charges being brought against Capitol rioters, calling it “the most complex investigation ever prosecuted by the Department of Justice.”

But the document also says that “the parties have also begun discussing a potential resolution of this case and need more time to continue those discussions.”

Court records show that the motion to delay the proceedings was denied by Judge Richard Leon, but the motion is still notable in its revelation that both sides have discussed a settlement. The two parties have a videoconference scheduled for this afternoon with Judge Leon.

One thing this article forgot to mention, is that the Judge admonished the prosecution about taking so long. For those of you that don’t know, the prosecution delaying things or dragging their feet usually means that they don’t have a very strong case. I know that many of you like to sit in judgment of Klete, and don’t agree with his actions (I must say that I do not as well) but that doesn’t take away from the fact that the majority of the charges are a stretch at best, and some charges have rarely been used against any defendant. The prosecution is delaying on the hope that they can discover something, which is going to become a 6th amendment… Read more »

I have decided that Klete is in fact a bona fide Opposition figure. Maybe not the Leader , which would be the guy in the bison hat & Cartthart pants , but certainly worth funding , promoting as a Voice for The People against an ageing out of touch corrupt cabal.

He should have access to foreign US reserves. also . If it were someone swarming the parliament in Belarus , Caracas , HK , he would be a US hero.

Imagine what a mental divot you had to be, to actually believe the election was stolen, to show up and riot at the Capitol Building and think that it would somehow change the outcome. Nobody in that mob had two functioning brain cells. Then the gallant wimps ran home and hid in their mother’s basement while deleting social media posts and begging friends to lie about their whereabouts. Nothing defined current right wing America as thoroughly as January 6th. And naturally now they are too petrified to have a congressional examination. Rugged individualism now translates to preventing as many votes as possible.

Imagine what a mental midget one has to be to throw Molotov cocktails at cops, torch federal buildings and burn businesses. Then hide in their mother’s which is where they live anyway. The summer of 2020 is what defines left wing lunacy. Nobody in that mob had any brain cells at all. What can you expect from a group that swallows tide pods, wears three masks at the same time and believes that there are actually 72 genders. There fixed it for you!

A lot of these cases seem to be reduced or tossed. The footage shows some being let in, some being peaceful and some not, so depends what evidence they have on Klete. For example, “ Disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds” could be a hard one to prove if capitol police waved them in.
