The King Aquatic Club’s high school aged girls have done a lot of relay record-breaking in the last couple of seasons, and while a few different swimmers have cycled through, the team is continuing to put up all-time best swims.
On Friday, the team of Hannah Weiss, Carolyn McCann, Heidi VanderWel, and Ashley Sutherland combined for a 4:11.47, which improves upon the 4:12.78 done in 2009 by the Carmel Swim Club.
That Carmel Swim Club relay consisted of Jessica Hammes, Lauren Stauder, Patricia Regan, and future Ohio State standout and Big Ten Champion Megan Detro on the anchor.
This KING relay ultimately was still a few seconds shy of the broader 15-18 record.
The splits:
- Hannah Weiss – backstroke – 1:01.18
- Carolyn McCann – breaststroke – 1:09.50
- Heidi VanderWel – fly – 1:03.34
- Ashley Sutherland – free – 57.45
Sutherland is the biggest new addition to that group, as the 17-year old took over the spot that in past relays has been held by Morgan Ginnis. That includes on the team’s record-setting 200 medley relay for the same age group.
The front-half continues to be the strength of this relay, with the USC commit Weiss and the Michigan commit McCann rounding out their pre-college careers this summer.
