Kiera Janzen to Replace Amber McDermott on United States’ Pan Ams Roster

Minnesota Golden Gopher Kiera Janzen will replace Amber McDermott on the United States’ roster for the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada. McDermott officially announced her retirement as of the end of the NCAA Championships two weeks ago in Greensboro and notified USA Swimming of her decision.

Janzen then will absorb McDermott’s spots in the 200 and 400 frees individually, with a chance to swim on the 800 free relay a possibility as well.

This is uplifting news for Janzen and the Minnesota program after she withdrew from the 2015 NCAA Championships, which were to be her last, at the last minute.

Janzen’s best time in the 200 meter free is 1:58.28 and her best time in the 400 meter free is 4:10.25. Those times both would have earned gold medals at the 2011 Pan Am Games.

Janzen is a 6-time CSCAA All-American at Minnesota and a former member of the USA Swimming Junior National Team.
