KHSAA Record-holder Hunter Tapp Announces Verbal to NC State

Louisville, Kentucky USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Hunter Tapp announced via social media that he has committed to swim for North Carolina State University beginning in 2019-20. He will join Noah Bowers, Noah Henderson, and Ross Dant in the class of 2023.

“I’m very excited to announce my commitment to North Carolina State University to further my academic and athletic careers. Thanks to my parents and coaches for helping me every step of the way. I’m very excited to join the Wolfpack Family! #GoPack?”

A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Tapp swims for Louisville’s Trinity High School and Lakeside Swim Team. He is the Kentucky High School record-holder in the 100 free, having lowered his own record at the 2018 Kentucky High School Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships in February. Tapp won the 100 free with 43.99, taking .66 off the state record he’d set as a sophomore in 2017. He was also runner-up in the 50 free (20.40), split 19.70 on the second-place 200 free relay and led off the third-place 400 free relay (44.79).

In club swimming with Lakeside, Tapp finished 15th in the 200 free and won the C final of the 100 free at Winter Juniors East. Last summer at NCSA Summer Championship he finished 5th in the 100 free, 11th in the 50 free, 14th in the 100 back, 19th in the 50 back, and 27th in the 200 back.

Top SCY times:

  • 50 free – 20.40
  • 100 free – 43.99
  • 200 free – 1:38.80
  • 50 back – 23.94
  • 100 back – 50.45
  • 200 back – 1:48.58

Hunter is currently a Junior, the record was from Sophomore year – seems just a typo in the article – Outstanding young man!

So which year is he? Collegeswimming.com says he’s a junior this year, while the story says he’s a senior.
