Kawecki Puts Up World’s Second Fastest 100 Backstroke at Polish Nationals

Radoslaw Kawecki swept the backstroke events at the Polish Short Course National Championships this weekend in Ortrowiec Swietokrzyski putting up a time in the 100 backstroke that ranks second in the world.

Kawecki who took the silver medal in the event in Doha recorded a time of 50.03 to jump one spot over German Christian Diener, but was still close to a second slower than Australian Mitch Larkin who posted a 49.25 earlier this year. Kawecki won the 50 backstroke in a time of 23.49 and the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:51.71, over four seconds slower than the time he recorded in Doha.

Jan Switkowski won the men’s 200 IM in a time of 1:53.64 breaking Marcin Cieslak‘s Polish record of 1:53.91 which he posted in Doha. Switkowski’s time puts him ninth in the world rankings just ahead of Cieslak.

Cieslak finished second in the race recording a time of 1:58.27.

Pawel Korzeniowski, who took the bronze in the 200 butterfly at the World Short Course Championships, decided to enjoy a weekend of sprinting winning the 50 butterfly (23.29) and the 100 IM (53.21).

18 year old Wojciech Wojdak won and broke the age group record in the 400 freestyle (3:41.69) and 800 freestyle (7:38.17). His 800 freestyle time ranks eighth in the world.

Aleksandra Urbanczyk won the 50 freestyle (24.22), 50 backstroke (26.39), 50 butterfly (25.80) and the 100 IM (59.35).

Alicja Tchorz won the women’s 200 IM in a time of 2:09.39, just missing the Polish national record of 2:09.25. Tchorz also took the 100 butterfly (59.62) and the 400 IM (4:42.10).

On the men’s side there were several age group records set which included:

  • Krysztof Tokarski (18) – 50 breaststroke – 27.18
  • Marcin Stolarski (18) – 100 breaststroke – 59.41    200 breaststroke – 2:08.83
  • Dawid Murzyn (17) – 50 backstroke – 24.49
  • Karol Zbutowicz (16) – 200 breaststroke – 2:13.03
  • Kacper Stokowski (15) – 200 freestyle – 1:49.61    200 backstroke – 1:59.57
