Santa Margarita senior Katie McLaughlin reclaims the overall high school record in the 100 butterfly with her winning time of 51.53. She established the previous independent high school record last year at the same meet with a 51.78. At that time, the overall record was 51.92. Earlier this school year, however, Beata Nelson, lowered the public school and McLaughlin’s overall record to 51.70.

McLaughlin’s swim tonight reclaims the overall HS record in the girls 100 butterfly. Earlier in the session, she also won the girl’s 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.01.

Mclaughlin wasn’t the only swimmer at the CIF-SS Division 1 meet. Abbey Weitzeil also lowered the public HS records in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

A full recap of the meet will be available later.

What a talent. I’m looking forward to seeing her represent us in Rio swimming the 200 fly.

Hopefully she does. She doesn’t want to breaking Mission Vireo’s streak of having an Olympian every Olympics since 1976.

Actually she’s going to be swimming for Cal come Rio!

Is the picture of her swimming for this article the one from her race where she swam a 51.53? Because if it is the actually swim, she wasn’t even wearing a very fast suit.
1) Her low cut front definitely catches water more than some of the higher necked (faster suits)
2) The leg suits that cover the thighs are faster too.

So she can take even more time off with a faster suit.

Tony, do you know when/where this picture of her was taken? Thank!

That’s not a picture of her swim.
She’s very talented but 51.53 and 1.43.01 in a training suit….

That’s a picture from a photo session.
The pics were posted last month on swimswam.
