Kalisz Scratches Mesa Grand Prix, Hardy Joins the Party

In an updated version of the psych sheets for the 2014 Mesa Grand Prix, there were a few changes (some added and dropped events here-and-there), but the major note was a pair of National Teamers changing their status for the meet.

See the updated psych sheets here.
All the links you need to follow the meet, including these psych sheets, are here.

The first is that Georgia sophomore Chase Kalisz, the two-time defending NCAA champion in the 400 IM and defending Worlds silver medalist in the same, has pulled out of the meet (though younger brother Connor is still entered).

After another incredible college season in the water, despite a lot of tumult outside of it, there was a lot of anticipation surrounding watching Chase Kalisz get back into long course and show off some of his new-found skills in events like the 200 butterfly.

He was scheduled to swim the 100 fly, the 200 fly, the 200 free, the 100 breast, the 200 breast, the 200 IM, and the 400 IM.

Meanwhile, Jessica Hardy, who has a short trip down from her southern California training home, has joined the fray. This will be her first meet since the Austin Grand Prix in January, where she swam very well with a 1:07.0 in the 100 breaststroke. It’s also just her 2nd meet since Worlds, as we’ll now see many of the post-grad swimmers on the west coast pick up more frequent competitions headed into the spring and summer.

Hardy is entered into the 50 free, the 100 free, and the 100 breaststroke, which is more-or-less what we’d expect, plus a 50 breaststroke when available, for the rest of the 27-year old’s career.

Hopefully Kalisz is going to use this time to get some studying done.

I seem to recall a post from someone on here indicating this had been in the works for months and that he is going to sign with Under Armour who apparently are developing a swimwear brand.

Press conference at 3.30 PM MST. Link here.

I don’t understand anything with the time!
Mesa is in Mountain Standard Time? That’s right?
So when it’s 3.30 PM in Mesa, it’s 2.30 PM in Los Angeles and 5.30 PM in New York. That’s right?
The problem is that on different websites about time in the world, they give the same time in Los Angeles and in Mesa.
I need to know if there are 8 hours or 9 hours of time difference between Mesa and France.
Can someone answer me?

Thanks.
So there are 8 hours of time difference with France as I thought.
But why so many websites give the same time in Mesa and Los Angeles?
Here’s an example.
Mesa time

Los Angeles time
http://fr.thetimenow.com/united_states/california/los_angeles
It’s very weird.

And finally, there are 9 hours of time difference.
I still don’t understand anything but it’s not very important.
The meet starts at 5 PM Pacific Time. That’s the most important thing.

Happy to see that USA swimming has read me! 🙂
I remarked a few days ago that I had been surprised by their announcement of the comeback of MP. It was just “Phelps, Ledecky and Lochte in Mesa”. It looked like it wasn’t a big deal for the American federation.
Happy to see it’s now a big deal.
Press conference in live! Wow!
Hopefully Michael will tell us why he comes back, if it’s serious and if yes, for which event in particular he will train in the next 2 years.

That picture just looks…unnatural…lol

Too bad he’s not swimming though, he’s just getting better and better. Can’t wait to see where he’ll be by Rio.

It does, a little! I’m thinking he might have some of that “magic” hyper- flexibility/hyperextension that Spitz and Phelps both have. If so, that’s a good sign!
