Kalisz Scratches Mesa Grand Prix, Hardy Joins the Party

In an updated version of the psych sheets for the 2014 Mesa Grand Prix, there were a few changes (some added and dropped events here-and-there), but the major note was a pair of National Teamers changing their status for the meet.

The first is that Georgia sophomore Chase Kalisz, the two-time defending NCAA champion in the 400 IM and defending Worlds silver medalist in the same, has pulled out of the meet (though younger brother Connor is still entered).

After another incredible college season in the water, despite a lot of tumult outside of it, there was a lot of anticipation surrounding watching Chase Kalisz get back into long course and show off some of his new-found skills in events like the 200 butterfly.

He was scheduled to swim the 100 fly, the 200 fly, the 200 free, the 100 breast, the 200 breast, the 200 IM, and the 400 IM.

Meanwhile, Jessica Hardy, who has a short trip down from her southern California training home, has joined the fray. This will be her first meet since the Austin Grand Prix in January, where she swam very well with a 1:07.0 in the 100 breaststroke. It’s also just her 2nd meet since Worlds, as we’ll now see many of the post-grad swimmers on the west coast pick up more frequent competitions headed into the spring and summer.

Hardy is entered into the 50 free, the 100 free, and the 100 breaststroke, which is more-or-less what we’d expect, plus a 50 breaststroke when available, for the rest of the 27-year old’s career.
