Junior World Record-holder Rosalia Nasretdinova scratches 50 fly after heats of SC Worlds

Only one swimmer has scratched out of a final or semifinal on day 2 of the Short Course World Championships, and the lone scratch comes in the women’s 50 fly.

Russia’s Rosalia Nasretdinova, who broke the Junior World Record in this event while winning gold at the Youth Olympic Games this past summer, will not contest the semifinal after qualifying 15th.

Nasretdinova was just a tick off her seed time in prelims this morning, going 26.02 after coming in with a time of 25.92. She was the 15th seed, though in a race as short as the 50 fly, that still means she was only about two tenths away from 8th place in the heats.

Nasretdinova also swam freestyle on Russia’s mixed 4×50 medley relay, which took 4th in heats. Dropping semis of the 50 fly might be a play to be more well-rested for the relay, where the Russians could jump into medal contention.
