Junior Sydney Lofquist Transferring from USC to Wisconsin

Junior-to-be Sydney Lofquist will transfer from USC to Wisconsin this fall, according to Wisconsin’s student-run DailyCardinal news organization.

Lofquist is primarily a distance freestyler and IM’er, meaning that she’ll help fill a big hole left by the graduation of All-American Danielle Valley.

Lofquist’s best times in yards:

  • 100 free – 52.18
  • 200 free – 1:47.76
  • 500 free – 4:42.28
  • 1000 free – 9:56.05
  • 1650 free – 16:44.67
  • 100 fly – 56.56
  • 200 fly – 1:58.55
  • 200 IM – 1:59.91
  • 400 IM – 4:10.90

Among the entire short course and long course race lineup, she’s only swum one best time since arriving at USC – that came in the 200 free at a mid-season invite during her freshman season. Many of her best times, including the 500 free, came as just a high school junior.

As a sophomore in 2017, she didn’t race in the Pac-12 Championships after finishing in 3 B-finals as a freshman. If she gets back to her best times at Wisconsin, she would be a 50+ point scorer at the conference level.

Lofquist is on the young end of her class, having not turned 18 until September of her freshman year. This move will bring her closer to her home in Youngstown, Ohio.

because stanford dq’d a relay and the “olympians” were out training for long course. The stanford roster is considerably deeper today than it was in 2015. There is virtually no chance that anyone can beat them at the conference level for at least the next 4 years

Maybe some of these swimmers want to be part of a program that “has a chance to win” even at the conference level. Swimming in the PAC 12 unless you are a Stanford swimmer you have NO CHANCE not even a tiny one to win the conference. Coaches are having a hard time keeping teams motivated to go out and try to finish in 3rd. Pac 12 with the exception of the California schools is going to run into recruiting trouble with out of state athletes. Unless you are going to Stanford your chances of winning a team or individual first place at the conference level is just about impossible. California schools will do ok because of the favorable in… Read more »

ASU’s Silja Kansakoski won the 100 Breast at PAC 12’s this year as a freshman. This is such a pessimistic view. There are swimmers that enjoy a challenge.

Training style might not fit. Could be a lot more recruits have come in that are faster. Not being on the Conference team might be a reason, could be that someone is homesick and want to be closer to friends and family. Could be so many reason, sometimes something happens and a person need a new start and that can be easier in a new atmosphere.
