Junior World Championships medalist Bobbi Gichard has been named New Zealand’s national flag bearer for the upcoming Youth Commonwealth Games, per Yahoo! New Zealand.

Less than a month after winning the bronze medal in the 100 back at the 2015 Junior World Championships in Singapore, Gichard will be in Samoa, bearing her nation’s flag before another youth event, the Commonwealth Youth Games.

Gichard, just 15 years old, already has a wealth of international swimming experience. Prior to this summer, Gichard was the bronze medalist in the 100 back at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.

She also competed at the 2013 Junior World Championships, and was a part of New Zealand’s team at the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, Russia.

She’ll be competing in Samoa at the Commonwealth Youth Games as part of a very strong kiwi backstroking corps. Gichard will swim alongside Gabrielle Fa’Amausili, who won gold in the 50 back at Junior Worlds, breaking the meet and Junior World records in the process.

The opening ceremonies of the Commonwealth Youth Games begin tomorrow, Saturday the 5th, but swimming doesn’t kick off until Monday, September 7th. The four-day swimming portion will conclude on Thursday, September 10th.
