The Director of Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving is responsible for managing both the Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving programs. This position oversees all Swimming and Diving Coaches working with both programs, and is responsible for overseeing coaching, recruiting, scheduling, student-athlete development, travel coordination, fundraising, budget formulation, analysis and management, equipment purchases, public and community relations, parental relations, and health and safety of student athletes.

 

Full-time appointment, renewable on a contract basis.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

 Coaching 

  1. Full responsibility for coaching and training the Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Teams; for developing and conducting all in-season and out-of-season practice plans throughout the year as deemed necessary and appropriate.
  2. Has responsibility for psychological preparation of teams in both pre and post-competition and for developing motivational approach to practices and competitions.
  3. Organize teaching procedures for appropriate staff. Conduct team meetings and assignments as necessary. Engage and utilize support staff when necessary and applicable.
  4. Continue to develop comprehensive knowledge in decision-making, delegating authority, and in setting objectives.

Recruiting 

  1. Responsible for the national recruitment of top student-athletes for the Northwestern’s Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Team, commensurate with the admissions qualifications of Northwestern University who are capable of successfully competing at the NCAA level.
  2. Work closely with the designated Sport Administrator to develop recruiting strategies and a pool of admissible prospects.
  3. Maintain good relations with parents of current and prospective student-athletes.
  4. Manage and direct extensive on-campus recruiting program.

Administrative 

  1. Develop a nationally recognized competition schedule in conjunction with the designated Sport Administrator.
  2. Responsible for search and selection of qualified assistant coaching staff with approval of designated Sport Administrator and actively support and comply with the University’s Affirmative Action program.
  3. Direct and manage staff of assistant coaches. Delegate and prioritize administrative responsibilities to assistants.
  4. Conduct annual staff evaluations.
  5. Responsible for presenting to the Deputy Director of Athletics and Associate Athletic Director for Business a projected annual budget in the areas of responsibility for approval. Accountable for expense control compliance and administration of annual budget.  Implement Department operational procedures and policies.
  6. Responsible for supervising team and individual travel arrangements for recruiting visits, competitions and off-campus practice, and for the conduct and appearance of the team when traveling as representatives of Northwestern University.
  7. Demonstrate interest in academic progress of student-athletes. Work closely with Academic Services in solving and preventing academic problems.
  8. Cooperate with team physicians and the Sports Medicine staff regarding health care and decisions of practice and participation of student-athletes.

Alumni Relations, Public Relations, and Development 

  1. Responsible for the maintenance of sound alumni relations. In cooperation with the appropriate Associate Director, also responsible for promoting and participating in various alumni events.
  2. Assist Athletic Development staff in fundraising efforts on behalf of the swimming program and department as requested.
  3. Responsible for maintaining good public relations with the public news media, and working with Athletic Communications department in promoting Northwestern University. Maintain amicable public relations with faculty, staff, students and media of the University, friends, alumni support groups and secondary school/club coaches.

Other 

  1. Report to the designated Sport Administrator and faithfully and diligently carry out other Department-related duties as assigned.
  2. Demonstrate a cooperative attitude towards all sports in the Intercollegiate and Recreational programs.
  3. Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA.

  2. Help develop and implement a seasonal and yearly training program including a “dry-land” strength-training program that will compliment water training and help swimmers reach their maximum potential.
  3. Coach students individually or in groups, demonstrating proper swimming technique and observing students to detect and correct mistakes.
  4. Performs the duties of the Head Swim Coach in his/her absence.
  5. Confer with participants and parents to report swimmers’ progress, explain rules and regulations and any other important swim team information.

Frequent (34-66%) stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling and carrying. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and 10 pounds of force frequently. Must complete Bloodborne Pathogens Training. Will require flexible hours including weekends and evenings. The additional physical demands normally expected of a coach are required. Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance. Required to travel utilizing personal vehicle.

Assist with the day-to-day operations of the team, including teaching, coaching and fundraising activities; provide support for the vision and strategies of the head coach.  Assistant coach will be responsible for maintaining professional conduct, positive sportsmanship and acting as a role model for the student-athletes.  The candidate must demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills and must be able to work effectively with staff, faculty and other members of the University.  The position supports all efforts to continue to attract the nation’s top women’s swimmers to our Division I non-scholarship program.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • One to three years coaching experience at the collegiate and/or high school/club level; collegiate coaching experience
  • Competitive collegiate swimming experience, preferred
  • Ability to recruit within and knowledge & understanding of NCAA and Ivy League rules.
  • Strong organizational; writing; interpersonal; oral communication, and computer skills needed.
  • Knowledge and experience with word, excel, power point, video editing software, and social media (facebook, twitter, etc.) preferred.
  • Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the sport, and ability to coach and motivate.

POSITION OVERVIEW This position is a full-time, 12-month, benefited union staff position under the supervision of the Director of Athletics. AQUATICS COORDINATOR DUTIES •Serve as the Aquatics Coordinator: establishing procedure for and supervising, part-time and student employees assigned to work and operate programs occurring within Bok Pool. •Serve as a certified Pool Operator and ensure compliance with Section 10-144 of Code of Maine Regulations, Chapter 202: State of Maine Rules Relating to Public Pools and Spas. •Develop and maintain operations manual for Bok Pool. •Schedule use of Bok Pool for internal and external constituencies according to institutional and departmental guidelines. •Promote and establish rental opportunities with the external community. •Hire, train and supervise student and part-time lifeguards. •Teach lifeguarding classes within the physical education program and conduct training and certification classes for the public as appropriate. •Other duties as assigned.

Team YES! Aquatics of Houston is seeking a part-time Age Group Coach to work with our developmental age group program consisting of our Intermediate, Advanced and White groups. This entails working with age group swimmers ages 6-12 years with a wide range of abilities.The Age Group Coach will oversee training activities of assigned groups. Conduct age appropriate workouts focusing on technique, endurance, stroke development, drills, etc.

Practices are from 5:15 pm – 8:15 pm on Mon, Wed, Fri and 7:00 pm – 8:15 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Locations are at Cy Springs High School natatorium off of Fry Rd and Cy Falls (Huffmeister /Hwy 290) on Wednesdays. We practice all year except the month of August and closed on most CFISD holidays.

Other duties include attending swim meets (on average once per month / extra compensation received for coaching meets)

What we are looking for:

  • Consistent attendance and performance is a must.
  • Energetic with main focus on stroke development.
  • Experience working with summer league or USA Swimming athletes.
  • Certified USA Swimming Coach or be willing to become certified as a USA Swimming Member Coach.

Salary will commensurate with experience and yearly certification(s) are reimbursed
