Assistant Men’s/Women’s Swim Coach

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Aquatics Director is an exempt position whose primary responsibility is the financial success of the Aquatics Program through the on-going creation and/or development of staff, programs, services, facilities, and most importantly safety. Aquatics Management

  • Develop and introduce new services and programs on an ongoing basis; track utilization including capacity/availability, male/female, member/non-member, etc.
  • Aquatics operations including customer service, communication, marketing, purchasing, program development, implementation and evaluation
  • Daily walk through of the aquatics areas to ensure a clean, organized, safe, and well maintained facility, paying special attention to cleanliness, service delivery, and member interaction

Financial Accountability

  • Manage financial performance of the aquatic program through achievement of sales and revenue targets, expense management, proper planning and forecasting, and retention
  • Track, report and analyze the details of financial operation
  • Prepare and implement action plans to meet or exceed monthly financial goals
  • Assist club management in development of  annual operating and capital budgets, as well as long term growth strategy

JOB SUMMARY
The Head Coach reports to the Division Manager and is responsible of all daily operations of the swim team, and implementation of the vision and annual goals set forth by Gainesville Parks and Recreation. This includes but is not limited to meet entries, assistant/associate coach recruitment, hiring and supervision, technique and workout development, and goal setting and review.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Development of a program and philosophy that emphasizes the teaching of technical skills while striving to build swimmer’s confidence, endurance and training level;
  • Use of positive reinforcement, goal setting, team identity and motivational techniques to assist swimmers in meeting their personal goals and potential;
  • Promote the atmosphere that stresses a unified team concept, emphasizes the importance of each individual’s contribution to the team, and the subsequent commitment required;
  • Supervise practice sessions, arriving ahead of time and leaving only after all team activities have commenced;
  • Develop a written plan for the entire season and keep the Division Manager apprised of significant additions, deletions or changes to program. Prepare written practice workouts and supervise, oversee, assist the Assistant Coaches with same;
  • Attend all meets where Splash Aquatic Club (SAC) team members are participating.
  • Be the USA Swimming representative for the Splash Aquatic Club;
  • On a regular basis discuss with swimmers their performance at meets and progress throughout the year through the implementation of written goals for each swimmer (kept in an individual log book), and on a regular basis reevaluate these goals both for the team and individual swimmer;
  • Supervise, provide direction and feedback to Assistant Coaching staff, and participate in their annual evaluation process;
  • Conduct quarterly parent meetings to discuss the goals, achievements, status of the swimming program and reinforcement of the vision of the swim team;
  • Conducts all aspects of pool operations in conjunction with other full-time staff members to ensure the health, safety, and sanitation;
  • Assures that all patrons and staff adhere to GPRA policies and regulations and effectively mediates and handles all patron and/or staff disciplinary actions;
  • Complete and submit all required reports on a daily, weekly, monthly basis to include short and long range aquatic plans, budget, goals and capital needs;
  • Responsible for properly opening and securing the aquatics complex daily.
  • Execute and enforce any proclamation for the Director, Deputy Director, FMACC Division Manager, Aquatics Manager or higher authority;
  • Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education and Experience:
  • Preferred Associate’s degree with focus in Physical Education/Exercise Physiology, Recreation, Sports Management or related degree
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in a swim team coaching capacity
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the minimum level of qualifications, stated above.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Current swimming Coach Certification (ASCA Level II or higher)
  • Must be a registered USA Swimming Coach
  • Ability to obtain American Red Cross LG, Water Safety Instructor, First Aid and CPR/AED certification within 3 months of employment
  • Certified Pool Operator/Aquatic Facility Operator certification preferred

The coach’s primary duties are to lead successful, focused workouts 5 days a week,  assist swimmers in setting and achieving goals throughout the season, and regularly attend swim meets. Practices are offered for this age group 5 days a week; meet commitments average 1-2 weekends per month. The coach’s administrative duties include leading weekly communications to all of the coach’s groups, maintaining regular dialogues with families and swimmers about the program and group expectations, tracking daily attendance, and working with the head coach to help with the planning of social events and fundraising. Administrative work is expected to take an average of approximately 2 hours/week. Job Title:  Lead Age Group Coach (LAGC)

Supervisors:  Head Swim Coach, Head Age Group Coach, Executive Director

Overview:

The LAGC works directly with the Head Swim Coach and Head Age Group Coach to lead groups of the Age Group Swimming (AGS) program at BAC, a competitive swimming program that BAC operates as part of USA Swimming. Lead Age Group Coaches are responsible for many facets of the program’s operation, growth and success, including administration and oversight, under the guidance and supervision of the Head Swim Coach (HSC) and Head Age Group Coach (HAGC).

 

Duties Include:

  • Lead, create, and implement a training program for all group(s) under the LAGC’s direct supervision
  • Coach training groups as designated by the HSC
  • Participate in supporting BAC’s family service hour requirement
  • Assist in chairing/leading social events for the team with assistance from team parent volunteers, and assist in promoting social events to all team members and families
  • Assist in all AGS fundraising campaigns, helping to incorporate all athletes/families; assist in developing fundraising ideas that will be most effective for each age group
  • Assist and advise HSC and HAGC in developing and implementing education programs for both swimmers and parents in the AGS program
  • Attend all required staff meetings and trainings
  • Respond to all BAC related emails within 48 hours of receipt
  • Maintain current certifications as required for the position
  • Be prepared to recognize and respond effectively to emergency situations, including emergencies that may happen in non-AGS programs
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a career-minded coach who is organized, personable, and able to communicate effectively with parents, young athletes, and co-workers alike. This person must have a strong background in competitive swimming with at least 2 years of coaching experience, and be able to effectively evaluate and implement training philosophies.  ASCA Level 1 certification or higher is strongly desired. The ability to set both individual and program goals and to then develop a path to achieve those goals is crucial to success in this role. A successful coach will also possess excellent reading and writing skills. Regular email, phone, and in-person communication is required, and  professional and friendly communication skills are important. Attention to safety and professional behavior must be present at all times.

 

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary commensurate with experience. Employees receive free and/or discounted access to select BAC programs for employees and family members.

Hours and Location:

This is a part-time position that includes both on-deck hours as well as office hours for program administration and development. Consistent on-site office hours will be established with the HSC to ensure regular contact with other staff members and sufficient time for collaboration.
