The CCA Marlins swim team (CCA), located in Roanoke, VA, is seeking applicants for a Head Age Group Coach. The Roanoke Valley is uniquely nestled among the Blue Ridge Mountains in southwestern Virginia. An outdoor paradise (hiking, biking, boating, etc), Roanoke is located within three hours of Charlotte, Richmond, and Washington DC. The USA Swimming team currently boasts approximately 150 swimmers, ranging from novice to Junior National level swimming.

The Head Age Group Coach, a full-time salaried position, will be in charge of the age group program, coaching 2-3 training groups. The position will include 25-30 hours on deck per week with practices held Monday through Friday evenings, Saturday mornings, and possibly some weekday mornings as well.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Represent CCA in a professional and mature manner at all times while adhering to all USA- Swimming and ASCA Code of Ethics and Conduct policies.
  • Maintain all required credentials.
  • Coordinate with the Team’s Head Coach to develop seasonal training plan for all 14 & under practice groups within the philosophy of the program.
  • Responsible for writing and running our Age Group training groups, including developing and implementing dry land workouts.

Our ideal candidate will possess high ethical and moral standards and will be as interested in our members’ character development as they are in their development as swimmers. Candidates must have experience with Team Unify, Team Manager and Microsoft Office. It is preferred candidates have at least 4 years competitive coaching experience. Job Description:

This position will provide administration and oversight for successful management of all aspects of aquatics facility operations, as well as the planning, development and fulfillment of a comprehensive recreational programming which includes but is not limited to aquatics programming, club sports and intramurals.

Essential Functions:

  • Daily supervision of aquatic facility and programs to ensure a safe environment for all users: includes routine and preventative maintenance; equipment setup/breakdown/repairs of timing systems, scoreboards, public address systems, etc.
  • Manage varsity swimming and external events (as needed) as on-site administrator (requires evening and weekend work).
  • Hire, train, direct and supervise professional staff, lifeguards, contractors, student employees, volunteers required to operate the facility, programs and events at the highest possible standards.
  • Plan, staff, conduct and assess aquatics and recreation programs that foster a sense of community through inclusive participation and maximization of student engagement to support overall health and wellness.
  • Oversight of club sport programs, working with student leaders to provide direction, guidance and training on rules and regulations of the department, and sport governing bodies as well as assistance with budget management, travel coordinator, facility scheduling, roster management and eligibility verification from the director of sports medicine.
  • Conduct day-to-day operations of intramural programs, including management of IM Leagues technology, marketing, registration, facility scheduling, staff and equipment.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience operating and managing an aquatic facility
  • Certified Pool Operators license or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment required.
  • First Aid / CPR / AED certification required

 Qualifications:

Responsibilities:

  • Support, develop and show measurable success at coaching swimmers, ages 9-12, who are at blue time standard – Junior Olympic skill level
  • In general, coaching responsibilities for this group take place between the hours of 3:30-6:30 pm , Monday – Friday.
  • Must demonstrate a track record for strong season planning skills, including workouts, dry land, swim meets, and team-building activities.
  • Must demonstrate strong administrative & communication skills, including a working knowledge of the Team Unify software.

Job Description:

The Head Coach is responsible for providing effective leadership for, and day-to-day management of, the men’s and women’s swimming program. The Assistant Aquatics Manager assists with the operation of McGuinness Pool including scheduling use, promotes swimming to alumni and students. Assists Aquatics Director as liaison for facility rental groups.

Essential functions

  • Implement and maintain a standard of performance consistent with the College’s goals of academic and athletic excellence. Promote academic achievement among athletes. Consult with and work collaboratively with the Athletic Director and the Associate Director of Student-Athlete Health and Welfare regarding the academic performance of student-athletes as appropriate.
  • Provides instruction, mentoring, coaching, evaluation of, and guidance to student-athletes to allow them to develop their athletic skills and abilities to maximum potential. Determines appropriate coaching methods and strategies in consultation with the Director of Athletics & Recreation. Provides effective leadership, mentoring and supervision to Assistant Coaches. Provides assistance in scheduling and organizing games & meets. Develops and communicates practice schedules.
  • Manage the program within budgetary guidelines. Submit all budget-related reports and requests as required. Advise the Athletic Director of resource needs, including funding needs and staffing needs. Raise DAC funds to meet goal established by Department in cooperation with the Development Office.
  • Works with Athletic Communications staff to promote the team and provide relevant information to the media; collaboratively work with College Advancement personnel to promote and administer Diplomat Athletic Club activities and events.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director in scheduling facility and lifeguard coverage. Provide support services for outside rental groups including set ups for practices and competition assuring that equipment operates properly. Assist with hiring and training of lifeguards.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree Required
  • One to three years of experience coaching Swimming, preferable more years.
  • Current CPR, AED, and first aid certification required.
  • Ability to think critically and analytically.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Must pass the NCAA Division III Coaches Test
  • Must be certified to drive College vans per College policies.
  • The ability and willingness to provide excellent service and to work in a collegial manner with students, faculty and staff, and other constituencies is essential.

Because this position requires driving for College business, the successful candidate must possess a U.S. or Canadian driver’s license which has been valid for at least two years, have a driving record that is free from excessive motor vehicle violations within the last three years, and have had no convictions in the last 24 months for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
