The Assistant Coach is expected to assist in all aspects of the operation of their respective intercollegiate sport program as assigned by the Head Coach, including: teaching and implementing skills and strategy, practice planning and execution, game preparation and execution, scouting, recruiting, student-athlete support issues, and other duties that may be assigned by the head coach.

The anticipated term for this Assistant Men’s & Women’s Swimming Coach (part-time) position would run from September 1, 2023, through May 31, 2024; exact schedule to be determined with the Head Coach.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the organization and operation of respective sport including assuming responsibilities in the absence of the head coach.
  • Assist the head coach in developing and implementing coaching strategies and establishing expectations that facilitate the achievement of the student-athlete learning outcomes in the areas such as: teamwork, time management, problem-solving, conflict resolution, leadership and personal/professional networking.
  • Teaching athletic skills and team concepts as well as implementing skills and strategy in competitive situations.
  • Assist head coach to ensure that all actions of coaches and student-athletes of said team are performed with the appropriate level of instruction and safety precautions; and the that the well-being of everyone is prioritized in all activities.
  • Provide leadership in establishing, regulating, publicizing and enforcing all team regulations regarding personal conduct.
  • Cooperate with the athletic trainer and other College health personnel in the care and prevention of injury. Coach will also cooperate with the athletic trainer’s office concerning all injuries requiring attention by a physician.
  • Ensure personal conduct and that of the student-athletes is in keeping with the policies of the NCAA.  In addition, such conduct must at all times present an appropriate image to the College, visiting teams and the community.
  • All other duties as assigned and therefore deemed necessary and appropriate by the head coach and/or the Director of Athletics or his/her representative.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Tasks will be:

  • Main responsibility for daily training and follow-up of our B1 training group with the main focus on athletes training for participation in the ÅM, NM youth and NM junior. This involves planning, execution and evaluation of training. As of today, the training sessions are Monday to Friday afternoons, as well as Saturday mornings in the AdO Arena. There will also be some morning practice every week.
  • Assist our elite trainer at several morning practice sessions per week with elite and A1 level training. International level, NM sr and jr.
  • Head coach is part of the club’s management team consisting of an elite coach, sports director, general manager and head of the swimming school.
  • An important task as head coach is to see the big picture/the red thread in the club from swimming school to elite, to plan promotion and further development of the club’s coaches and athletes.
  • Responsible for setting up the term list and the club’s season plan in collaboration with the elite coach and sports manager.
  • Carry out training sessions/camps for the training groups together with others in the club. The training camps we offer are during the winter holidays, Easter holidays (possibly also extended in advance), autumn holidays and start ups in August.

The assistant coach provides administrative, instructional, and recruiting support services under the direction of the head coach and athletic director.

 

  • Assist in the implementation of the sport training and instructional program under the direction of the head coach by providing sport skill instruction, assisting in the conduct of practice sessions, performing game-related duties, and motivating players to give their best efforts

Required Qualifications

 

  • Possess an Associate’s and/or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

The Senior Aquatics Director must be a subject matter expert and innovator in the core programs of the Y including but not limited to: Lifeguarding; Parent & Child, Preschool, Youth, Private, and Adult Lessons; Family Swim Programs; all Rentals and Pool Parties; and Competitive and Pre-competitive Swim Programs that reflect community needs and maintain the YMCA’s high standards of quality, safety, and caring. The Senior Aquatics Director will work with the Chief Program Officer, assigned Senior Executive Director and peers to drive the association vision for aquatics through training, cohort collaboration, and aquatic leadership.

Responsibilities: In accordance with the policies, by-laws and constitution of the YMCA of Greater Boston, the Senior Aquatics Director is the lead in driving the Y experience in the assigned aquatic departmentsThe Senior Aquatics Director will create a transformative Y Experience that builds loyal participants and families, energizes employees, engages partners, inspires donors and stimulates program growth and innovation across branches.

The Senior Aquatics Director will ensure success in the following areas of responsibility to support a strong Y Experience:

  • Performance Achievement – Ultimately accountable for the performance of their team. Directly responsible for hiring, coaching and managing all direct reports and ensuring compliance with association hiring practices for all positions within their organizational structure. Conducts quarterly connections with direct reports to ensure progress with OKRs, ability to work well with others and discuss career development.
  • Program Enrollment, Growth and Experience – Drives program enrollment and growth while ensuring a high-quality, safe and transformative Y Experience as demonstrated by program enrollment, reality checks, net-promoter scores, DPH compliance and other experience metrics.
  • Marketing – Executes on all aspects of association marketing strategies and campaigns. Regularly promotes Y programs through participants and social media.
  • Youth Development – Leads and coaches staff to ensure high quality programming through the implementation of the YMCA Swim Lesson program.  Monitors and engages in family and participant communication.
  • Compliance – Ensures accountability and compliance with all YMCA safety standards and best practices, and regulatory health and safety requirements in the aquatics facilities and ensures active participation and attendance in monthly in-service for both safety and instruction.  Provides regular certification training for staff at the assigned branch(es) and provides coordination and training support too other branches.  Coordinates and documents in-service and certification training within cohort of branches.
  • Facility Management – Ensures that the aquatic environment is well maintained, safe and clean, following DPH guidelines and YMCA practices. Ensure program staff are conducting daily walk-throughs of facilities. Reports and follows up with staff to address any deficiencies and safety hazards.
  • Fiscal management – Assists with the development of an annual budget according to association instructions and ensures successful execution of the plan. Works to identify growth opportunities, forecasting on a monthly basis, and address financial deficiencies on a timely basis.
  • Collaboration – Collaboratively works with Senior Aquatics Directors and Chief Program Officer to ensure a positive experience for children, members and families participating in the programs through an aligned safety and instructional training and in-service experiences for the aquatic team members.  Refines, updates and implements in-service training, reality checks and best practices for the assigned cohort of aquatic departments.  Shares information and learning with Senior Executive Directors.
  • Financial development –Supports branch fundraising campaign, engages staff and families to meet quarterly and annual goals

In addition, the Aquatics Director will participate in all meetings as requested and will be asked to lead association-wide initiatives and other assigned duties.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Must have a demonstrated record of accomplishment in the areas of Aquatics, program growth, YMCA Safety standards, DPH compliance, fiscal management and staff development.
  • YMCA Lifeguarding certification. If Red Cross certified, the employee must obtain YMCA certification within six months of hire.
  • Proven track record in driving solid fiscal management.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Aquatics coordinates all aspects of SUNY Maritime College’s Aquatic facility. The Assistant Men’s & Women’s Swimming Coach will assist in coordinating all aspects of SUNY Maritime College Men’s & Women’s Swimming activities including coaching, recruiting, organizing and planning both practice and competition strategies, scheduling, staffing, budgeting, fundraising, team management and administration. This position will directly report to the Director of Athletics.

Director of Aquatics Specific Duties and Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Coordinates and implements aquatics program to meet the needs of both campus and local community maximizing programming and revenue generating potential of the aquatic facility
  • Responsible for the Pool Health and Safety Plan
  • Coordinates and manages a program of special events for the aquatics facility such as swimming competitions, intramurals, rentals etc
  • Organizes and coordinates a schedule for daily use of the aquatics facility

  • Adhere to and enforce all SUNY Maritime departmental/College policies and procedures as well as rules and regulations of governing bodies and associations
  • Oversee the recruitment of student-athletes within defined departmental strategies acceptable to standard Maritime College entrance requirements and within departmental resources designed specifically to promote timely graduation and effective use of athletic eligibility
  • Support a positive student-athlete experience, which is reflected by both high retention and graduation rates among recruited student-athletes
  • Provide necessary instruction for the teaching of fundamentals, game rules, and strategies relative to each sport
