The WTRC Sharks Swim Team, based in Centerville, OH, is looking for a positive, energetic, flexible, passionate, team-oriented and self-motivated coach to lead our Tiger (11-13 yr olds), Hammerhead (6-8 yr olds) and Lemon Shark (6 and Under) groups. The WTRC Sharks are a Volunteer Parent Board run 501-3(c) non-profit organization. We train at the Washington Township RecPlex (25 yard, 8 lanes) throughout the year, as well as, outdoor training at local pools (25 meter and 50 meter, 6-8 lanes) during the summer.
The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of stroke mechanics and training techniques. This candidate will also be able to communicate effectively and timely with the coaching staff, swimmers and parents as needed.
This is a full-time position with some stipends available. The Sharks cover/reimburse approved meet travel expenses, certifications and continuing education.
Duties for the coach include, but are not limited to:
*Motivating swimmers of all ages to be great in a positive way
*Planning and implementing a seasonal plan for the Tiger (including dryland),
Hammer and Lemon Shark groups
*Assisting with any other groups as needed
*Administrative duties, such as, meet entry, social media postings, email
communication and newsletter
*Attending staff meetings as scheduled
*Attending swim meets locally and out of state (Indiana and Kentucky mostly). 2-3 per
month
*Attending Sharks’ team functions (Banquet, JO Party, etc.)
*Assisting in recruiting and attending swim clinics at local summer league pools in the
area. (June-July only)

• Provide swim instruction to tots, children, adults, seniors, and people with special needs. Aquatic Specialists may be asked to coach swim teams, supervise lap swim, teach water exercise classes and serve as Aquatics Directors at Summer Camps.
• Develop and facilitate programming to engage New Yorkers in aquatic recreational activities.
• Lead and coach youth Aquatics programming.
• Instruct participants in basic fitness skills, including proper fitness equipment use, basic safety precautions and the health benefits of regular exercise.
• Lead aquatics fitness classes for New Yorkers of all ages.
• Maintain equipment and fitness areas on a daily basis, including keeping an inventory of necessary materials and supplies. Inspect public spaces and report evidence of unsafe or hazardous conditions.
• Establish program objectives, evaluate recreational programs and design cutting-edge curricula.
• Promote NYC Parks Recreation Center memberships and assist in events and special projects.
• Collect and submit accurate data, forms, and reports to meet internal deadlines.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Three years of participation in an art, craft or other recreational pursuit as a teacher, performer, coach, official, contestant or demonstrator, including at least one year of experience in that art, craft or recreational pursuit to be performed on the job, as described below; or
2. Major study in that art, craft or recreational pursuit to be performed on the job, as described below, acquired in a high school, college or other appropriate institution over at least a three year period; or
3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience or education in that art, craft or recreational pursuit to be performed on the job as described below.
Job assignments are limited to the following recreational activities: woodworking, weightlifting, tennis, aquatics, soccer, fencing, golf, gymnastics, ham radio, horseback riding, hockey, figure skating, martial arts, music, nature study, art, photography, dramatics, dance-roller skating, small crafts, sewing, astronomy, auto mechanics, baton twirling, bridge, chess, modern dance, dog obedience, puppetry, boxing and storytelling.
Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s degree in physiology, recreation or a sports related field.
2. Experience recruiting, instructing and coaching sports, including girls’, women’s and nontraditional sports.
3. Excellent communication, organizational and customer service skills.
4. Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
5. Able to work weekends and non-traditional hours.
6. Fluency in Spanish, Korean, Mandarin/Cantonese or Polish.
7. Valid New York State driver license.

Position Overview:
Title: Head Development Coach
Start Date: September 1, 2023
This position is a great opportunity to oversee and manage your own training squads with the guidance and support of an experienced coaching staff.
Reporting Relationship: You will report directly to Mark Sedlak, Weston Swim Team Head Coach.
Responsibilities:
Conduct coaching duties for assigned practice squads on a scheduled basis.
Attend regularly scheduled meets to support and guide the swimmers.
Act as the lead contact coach for Blue, Gold, and Age Group Development Squads.
Manage and support assistant coaches.
Compose entries and handle administrative duties for Blue, Gold, and Age Group Development Squads.
Assist the Head Age Group Coach, Head Coach, and other staff members as needed.
Participate in team functions, including swimmer evaluations, parent meetings, and stroke clinics.
Salary and Benefits:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and availability. Weston Swim Club offers a competitive compensation package and qualified applicants will range from 22-25K.
The salary is subject to deductions for taxes and other withholdings as required by law and/or the policies of Weston Swimming.
Travel allowance and expenses as per the Weston Swimming policies and procedures.
Additional coaching opportunities may include team swim clinics and lessons, connections to local High School Teams and Summer Club programs.
Training and Certifications:
Ongoing training, clinics, in-services, and certification classes are strongly supported by Weston Swimming.
Weston Swimming will consider and may partially or fully cover the cost of training and certifications on a case-by-case basis.
Qualifications:
A valid membership standing as a USA Swimming Coach, or the ability to obtain and maintain it throughout employment.
Previous coaching experience, preferably with age group swimmers.
Strong organizational and administrative skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Passion for developing young swimmers and fostering a positive team environment.
