Assistant Women’s College Swim Coach

Assist head coach with direction of women’s swim program at San Diego State University through a variety of responsibilities that include but are not limited to coaching, recruiting, academic advising, counseling, and leadership development.

Duties

• Assist head coach with organizing and informing support staff (administrative, strength and conditioning, athletic training, equipment staff, etc.) of program’s needs and operations.
• Assist head coach with developing new ideas and philosophies within the program to keep up to date with current trends and developments within the collegiate and intercollegiate swimming landscape.

• Assist head coach, in coordination with Equipment staff, with selecting and submitting uniform and equipment requests for team and staff.
• Assist head coach, in coordination with Event Management staff, with organizing and fulfilling operations of home contests as well as practices and events.
• Assist head coach, in coordination with Strength and Conditioning staff, with organizing and implementing the needs of team’s weight room activities.
• Assist head coach, in coordination with Athletic Medicine staff, regarding injuries, rehabilitation, surgeries, and other medical concerns within the program.
• Assist head coach with all internal and external communication by answering and returning incoming phone calls, e-mails, and correspondence.
• Assist head coach with organizing, coordinating, and supervising community service projects, local clinics, and booster and alumni events.
• Assist head coach with fund raising activities, corporate and private sponsorship, as well as marketing of the program.
• Responsible for attending department meetings such as All-Staff and Compliance.
• Travel Coordinator: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, organizing and booking of flights, transportation, hotels, meals, per diem, practice times, recruiting trips, prospect visits, etc.
• For post-season competition, coordinate travel, housing, practices, meals, itineraries, and all team activities.
• Banquet Coordinator: Responsible for organization and implementation of annual end-of-the-season banquet. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, informing all possible participants, reserving facility, creating food menu, collecting monies, supervising creation of banquet program, creating highlight film, etc.
• Other duties as assigned by head coach.

RECRUITING

• Recruiting Coordinator: Assist the head coach in all aspects of recruiting in effort to bring the best prospects to San Diego State University, thus creating a nationally competitive team that can win conference championships as well as participate in the post season with the goal of a National Championship(s).
• Assist head coach with annual and future recruiting strategies and needs, while offering assistance with scholarship allocation plan to execute strategy.
• Assist head coach with all recruiting documentation needs, such as official visits forms, transcript collection, GIA paperwork, etc. Responsible for all organization and implementation of recruiting trips and visits. Plan appropriate activities during official visits.
• Assist head coach with compilation of necessary file and technology system for efficient and organized manner of handling recruitment of prospects.
• Must possess a cooperative effort in working with all recruiting personnel.
• Must pass NCAA Division I Recruiting Exam to stay current and educated on NCAA rules and regulations.
• Responsible for assessment of prospective student-athletes, which includes evaluating documents, calling informed contacts of student-athlete, traveling to watch the prospects play, and watching recruiting videos.
• Initiate and maintain communication with prospective student-athletes in line with NCAA and conference regulations.
• Establish relationships with local programs, programs in Southern California, across the country, and with overseas contacts and recruiting organizations.
• Recruited student-athletes earn conference, regional, and/or national honors.

ACADEMICS

• Academic Coordinator: Assist in responsibility for the overall academic progress and academic success of the team.
• Cooperate with Academic Support Services Staff for course registration times, mentoring and tutoring programs, and study hall dissemination.
• Committed to proper citizenship of student-athletes.
• Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the monitoring of class attendance, study hall hours, student-athlete notebooks, homework assignments, and exams to ensure academic success.

COMPETITIVE RESULTS

• Prepare student-athletes physically, mentally, and emotionally to be able to compete at the national level, while aspiring toward Mountain West Conference Championships and post-season competition/championships.
• Assist head coach with organizing and administering appropriate training workouts for off-season, pre-season, competitive season (fall), post-season, and non-competitive season (spring) needs.
• Work with student-athletes in one-on-one training environments.
• Assist head coach in organizing, supervising, coordinating, and implementing past and current coaching techniques, strategies, and practices.
• Assist head coach with team preparation through scouting upcoming opponents and utilizing opponent film to organize and implement necessary game plans.
• Serve as video coordinator. Videotape all strokes, starts, and turns with each individual swimmer. Provide technical feedback throughout the season after individual video sessions. Monitor technical improvements through stroke-specific drills and dialogue with each swimmer.
• Work with student-athletes utilizing game footage.

LEADERSHIP, TEAM DEVELOPMENT, AND COMPLIANCE

• Assist head coach with the student-athlete’s education and execution of the program’s Code of Conduct.
• Deal with discipline problems in a professional manner.
• Follow NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations; ensure student- athletes follow NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations.
• Cooperate and work with the compliance staff.
• Attend educational seminars on compliance and academic affairs.
• Complete required forms in a timely manner.
• Actively involved in departmental compliance.

The candidate must have the ability to effectively recruit and retain quality student-athletes. The ability to effectively communicate through oral, written and electronic forms along with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate student-athletes in a group or individual setting are also necessary. The candidate must actively support the mission of the university by working with faculty, staff and students to share in our core values. The candidate must complete the NCAA coaches recruiting exam, and travel is required.

Regular attendance at assigned job site and the ability to work collaboratively with co-workers and constituents are essential functions of this position.

Salary

Columbia Swim Club (CSC) is seeking an outstanding, experienced Senior Coach to join a vibrant coaching and training environment in Columbia, MO. Candidates must demonstrate: successful experience at multiple levels of coaching; a passion for the sport; the ability to communicate broadly within the Club; and positively represent the Club within the LSC and nationally. It is expected that the successful candidate will continue to grow and advance the senior groups of the Club, fostering an environment that develops all levels of swimmers, including at national levels. Job Responsibilities

This position is responsible for ensuring the overall integrity of the senior and pre-senior groups at the Mizzou Aquatic Center, and reports to the Head Coach. This position is also provides oversight for all programs and staff at the Mizzou Aquatic Center while working closely with the Head Coach to ensure seamless philosophies between the age group and senior programs. Columbia Swim Club creates opportunity for swimmers to merge passion and commitment with expertise resulting in the highest level of personal performance.

• Directs all aspects of the programming at Mizzou Aquatics Center

• Manages, motivates, & develops staff of full and part time coaches at Mizzou Aquatic Center

• Coaches a minimum of one group

• Guides recruitment & retention of swimmers

• Works with Head Age Group and Head Developmental coaches to set training schedules, workout groups and criteria for advancement of all groups; coordinates stroke and training principles

• Mentors/monitors the coaches for the senior groups and pre-senior groups

• Determines meet participation (including travel trips)

• Oversees parent education

• Provides college guidance to seniors

• Facilitates career growth for staff members

• Works with the Board of Directors to create & execute vision for the team’s growth and continuing success

• Assists with team budgeting

Qualifications

• Strong work ethic & passion for the sport required

• 5+ years coaching experience required

• 4+ years proven leadership/staff supervision preferred

• Proven coaching record with excellent swimmer progression/results

• Proven ability to mentor/ motivate staff to reach potential

• ASCA Level 4 or higher preferred

• Working knowledge of Team Unify & Hy-Tek TM required

• Microsoft Office proficiency required

Provincial Coach, Provincial High Performance Program Coordinator

Provincial Coach – The primary responsibility is to lead the development, implementation, monitoring, management and evaluation of High Performance Provincial Team programs (for e.g. provincial stroke camps, tour teams, staging camps, games teams, athlete selection etc.) of Swim Saskatchewan to achieve the goals in the Swim Saskatchewan Strategic Plan and High Performance Strategic Plan. This will also involve Head Coaching responsibilities at all Provincial Team initiatives and also on the Western Canada Games and Canada Games Teams through attendance at the games and by coordinating the preparation of Team Sask.

To also work with club coaches throughout the province to develop provincial team programs that will improve the selection of Saskatchewan swimmers to Swimming Canada Youth, Junior and Senior National teams.

Job Requirements

  • A demonstrated history of coaching success in competitive swimming at the Senior National level.
  • A proven track record of developing, implementing and evaluating technical competitive swimming programs at the age group, junior and senior levels.
  • Minimum NCCP Level 3 certification (or equivalent).
  • An educational background and extensive knowledge and experience of sport science and high performance sport. A Bachelor’s degree in a sport/exercise science discipline (i.e. Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, Physical Education, etc.) will be considered an asset.
  • A strong understanding of training principles (progressive overload, periodization, tapering, etc.) and athlete development (e.g., Long Term Athlete Development model).
  • A comprehensive knowledge of competitive swimming.
  • Written and oral fluency in English.
  • Proven communication and people skills.
  • Excellent administrative, programming and computer skills.
  • The applicant should be a self-motivated individual who can work and accomplish tasks independently, and has the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work collaboratively with others in working towards common goals.
  • Ability to travel throughout Saskatchewan, Canada and North America.

Key Responsibilities

This will also involve Head Coaching responsibilities at all Provincial Team initiatives and also on the Western Canada Games and Canada Games Teams through attendance at the games and by coordinating the preparation of Team Sask.

The position will be responsible for the planning and implementation of effective sport science support and services (e.g. athlete monitoring and testing procedures) during the regular swim season and at various provincial team activities.

The position will develop/establish performance standards including testing, monitoring and evaluating swimmers’ progress and success. This will involve performing regular communication and follow-up meetings with swimmers selected to the various Swim Sask High Performance Provincial Teams and with their club coaches in regards to athlete monitoring and testing, which will include the collection, analysis and reporting of data.

The position will require the development and implementation of a regular visitation schedule with all head coaches in the province for the purpose of working with and providing support to those coaches to help develop and prepare swimmers for future involvement at national team activities and to get more clubs in Saskatchewan thinking and operating at a more competitive and High Performance level.

Develop a talent identification program that can be implemented across the province within club programs and between organizations (for e.g. community programs, Red Cross lessons, etc.)

Monitor results of Saskatchewan swimmers and assist club coaches to identify areas in need of further development. Provide recommendations to club coaches and assist with programs for future athlete development.

Provide swim clubs and coaches with technical advice and expertise in whatever capacity might be required and act as a mentor coach and resource person for all coaches when requested.

Liaise and provide support to the university varsity program(s) to ensure the delivery of quality high performance swimming programs in Saskatchewan for post-secondary athletes.

Attend all Saskatchewan Provincial Championships, provincial coaching association meetings and Swimming Canada Provincial Coaches meetings.

You must be a team player and understand that when working for a not-for-profit organization it is important to be flexible and be willing to help out whenever required. On occasion this may include assistance with duties that may lie outside the scope of your responsibilities.

You must represent yourself in a professional and respectful manner providing Swim Saskatchewan with a positive image when communicating with both members and external partners (for e.g., Sask Sport).

You must provide a clear criminal record check and clear child abuse registry check.

Salary

A competitive salary and benefits package will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This is a full time position and hours of work will vary but will include evenings and weekends. This position is partially fund by a grant from Sask Sport Inc. The contract will be a one-year term with possible extension for a minimum of two additional one-year terms.
