The team consists of over 250 swimmers with a budget size of $450,000 which operates out of a 20,000 square foot aquatics facility in Basking Ridge, NJ with two (2) 6-lane competitive pools and various regional satellite facilities. This is an on-deck Head Coach position with administrative responsibilities and strong volunteer support from a Swim Team Parent Organization.


Manage competitive Swim Team program including preparation and implementation of practice lesson plans focused on development of competitive skills as well as teamwork, persistence, positive attitude, and core values.
Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, develop, schedule and direct coaching staff and volunteers as needed.
Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

Accurately enter swim meet information and communicate to parents in a timely, professional manner.
Assist management team with monitoring daily pool operations to adhere to state to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
Assist management team with conducting and ensuring proper maintenance of pools.
Secure and schedule pool facilities.
Build effective, authentic relationships with community partners, parents and program participants.
Work directly with the Swim Team Parents Organization to promote and support the swim team
Create, target and distribute marketing of program information.
Develop and monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
Maintain knowledge of industry trends and safety regulations.
Assist in YMCA fund raising activities and special events as assigned.
Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures including emergency safety procedures.


Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
ASCA Level 3 or higher certification
Coach in good standing with USA Swimming
Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in staff supervision and leadership
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and motivational skills
YMCA Aquatics programming or operations experience a plus
Knowledge and professional experience in program planning, talent selection, performance management, staff development, budgeting and facilitation of youth programs.
Experience with swim meet and team management software such as Team Manager, Meet Manager, or Team Unify (a plus)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid.
Current LGI, WSI and CPO License a plus.

The Head Swim Coach is responsible for oversight and day-to-day operations of the competitive youth swim team operating in Marquette & Houghton, Michigan with headquarters in Marquette.


The YMCA Killer Whales Head Coach will be an energetic, enthusiastic and organized individual who has the following qualifications: college degree preferred; current certifications in CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding and Safety Training for Swim Coaches. Also, the successful candidate must have either Principles of YMCA Competitive Swimming and Diving or USA Swimming Coach credentials or the ability to obtain within 1 month of hire. Successful applicants should have a minimum of four years of coaching experience; applicants with previous head coaching experience are preferred. Previous experience with a nonprofit organization and YMCA is preferred.


• Work with the Publicity and Program Planning Committee to recruit swimmers for the team.
• Plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions both in the water and additional dryland strength practices with an eye toward helping athletes reach both short and long term goals.
• Provide training direction, encouragement, and motivation in order to prepare swimmers for competitive events at all levels.
• Promote an atmosphere of team cohesiveness by working closely with social committee.
• Recruit, interview, hire, schedule, train and supervise assistant coaches and volunteers.
• Assist with the development and management of annual budget for the swim program and monthly budget monitoring.
• Set up, post and run meets using Hy-Tek Meet Manager software.
• Knowledge of IST or similar electronic timing system operations, including troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of electronic components.
• Use TeamUnify software to manage athlete data, meet registration, team entries, team communication and to organize volunteers for home swim meets, fund raising efforts, concessions operations and other team functions.
• Organize volunteers and event workers for at least two large swim invitational’s per year.
• Oversee and effectively manage assistant coaches who work at multiple pool sites with different age athletes and training groups, including an offsite staff located in Houghton.

• Work with Swim Team Parent Group to set up and manage all home meets.

The coach will coach one groups (ages 10-17) with mainly C/B level swimmers. The
coach will conduct effective workouts daily, 5 days a week; Monitoring swimmers’ progress throughout the season; attending swimming meets. Approximately 10 hours/week (not including meets approximately twice/month). Minimum commitment 1 season.

Administrative Duties

Include being responsible for communications (via letters, emails and website) with the team including publishing: practice/meet schedules, coordinating with parents/swimmers and addressing questions/ concerns from parents/swimmers.

You will also be responsible for maintaining application/registration forms and team roster.

You will work closely with the head coach on both logistical (practices, meets and social activities) and creative (publicity and donations) matters.

Excellent reading and writing skills, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) functionalities and typing proficiency (around 70 words per minute) are a must. Approximately 7 hours/week (approximately 1 hour/day). Minimum commitment 1 season.


PEAK swimming is a year round Bronze medal club. Since its establishment in 2010, PEAK swimming has produced swimmers at all levels, from CBA meets to the Olympic Trial, as well as sending swimmers in DI, DII colleges.
PEAK swimming is a non-prof organization.

Assistant Women’s Swim Coach

The Assistant Women’s Swim Coach will assist the head coach in all phases of the Women’s Swimming and Diving program including but not limited to recruiting qualified student-athletes, organization and design of practice and competition, on-deck coaching, pool scheduling, team management, travel arrangements, budget management, coordination of academic and compliance staff, alumni development, fundraising and other duties as assigned. The assistant coach is responsible for conducting any duties or activities with integrity and within the rules of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA), the Missouri Valley Conference and/or Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVC or MVFC), the State of Illinois, Illinois State University, and the Athletics Department.


A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred. One to two years of collegiate and/or club coaching experience (GA experience accepted) is preferred. The assistant coach must pass the NCAA Division I recruiting exam annually. The assistant must also have certification in CPR/AED and First Aid or become certified upon employment. Required skills include: a proven ability to teach and coach fundamentals and advanced skills; advanced knowledge of swimming techniques and strategies; proven organizational and leadership ability; proficient computer skills, and thorough knowledge of NCAA Recruiting Rules.

In conjunction with the Head Coach direct and administer the IUPUI swimming program in compliance with applicable NCAA, Summit League and institutional regulations. Provide coaching and administrative support to the head coach while ensuring compliance with all governing bodies. Prepare meet plans and strategies. Develop plans to successfully recruit prospective student-athletes. Identifies potential recruits and plans effective scouting and evaluation plans. Evaluates prospective student-athletes and in conjunction with the head coach executes recruitment plans to enroll desired prospects. Work with admissions and compliance to set official visit itineraries for prospective student-athletes in compliance with NCAA requirements.

Develop and recommend strategies for successful program including practice plans and strategies as well as participation in the development and execution of meet strategies. Participate in and lead assigned elements of practices and matches to include preparation, effective execution of drills, one-on-one development work with athletes as warranted and fulfillment of competition day responsibilities as assigned by the head coach. Responsible for ensuring that all administrative requirements for the team are effectively carried out to include: travel arrangements and itineraries; equipment and uniform purchases; in conjunction with the head coach develop plans to successfully engage in fund raising, promotional and community service activities. Work in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to design and implement targeted development programs appropriate to the specific athletic needs of the program. In conjunction with the academic support staff, monitor academic progress and meet with individual student-athletes to ensure academic success and compliance with university and NCAA academic standards.


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, plus 1 year of collegiate coaching, playing, or graduate assistant experience, preferably at the Division I level. Valid driver’s license required.

Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task and work independently, ability to effectively communicate with diverse constituencies.
